Prior to the decline of pop music in 98 they were definitely in the top 3-5 alternative bands and probably even rock (as an umbrella category including alternative)

they were bigger than sound garden, miiiight have been less popular than pearl jam, but in my opinion have a far better and more diverse catalogue instead of releasing, what like 4 versions of live shows for each town they have been to? jesus

um, green day might have been bigger (in the 90s) but not better. Metallica was certainly bigger, until St. Anger... wow man, just wow


um... oh radiohead later became bigger, coldplay did quite well but only had 2-3 albums by then, and I could be wrong but Yellow (Parachutes) might have come out in 2000

The Smashing Pumpkins weren't even popular in the 90s. They started getting popular in 05+, that is around when this song came out

I'm going to assume you are, but post this anyway, just incase people are being confused by all this: For some reason it won't let me post the direct link to the Wiki page, but if you go to The Smashing Pumpkins on Wiki, you will see a section called "Adore, Machina, and breakup: 1998–2000" and guess what! It concerns the 1998 Adore album which is what this song was released on. Unless they used a time machine or something, who knows.



They had to be around when DeLorien s were popular to go back in time, and like I said they probably couldn't afford one in 1985 because they didn't get popular until around 2005
