it's weird, I like Tool and NIN and yet when I hear Soma by Smashing Pumpkins or the bulk of Pearl Jam less 'pretty songs' I find them too loud, if that makes any sense

I mean even if you were a solid fan, you have to concede they have what.. maybe 4 great songs? their catalogue depth is awful

oh man, you want me to like a band (see above with the QQ about "loud" ballads) then give me their unplugged album, or acoustic with the philharmonic dildos of america, and i'll love it

"He's the one who likes all our pretty songs, and he likes to shoot his guns, but he don't know what it means" ~ Kurt Cobain

I am totally guilty of disliking an album at first if there are too many difficult to like songs. I only listened to like 19 of Mellon Collie's 28 songs at first because the rest were too loud and impossible to fall asleep to at night. I later gave it a proper listen because I somehow got Bodies stuck in my head (UGH SO GOOD). In any case, that's largely why I made the convert me thread because of peoples' (and my own) tendency to do as I describd or the simple exposure to exclusively singles

you said they had 4 great songs, I said you are crazy as fuck. And you can't compare Nirvana's unplugged to AiC's unplugged (If that is what you were doing with that quote) because Nirvana had mostly other peoples songs and AiC was all original. AiCs was in another league

idk i can't say one was better than the other, nirvana had some redic versions of their songs on that unplugged. and where did you sleep last night is the most haunting bluegrass cover i've ever heard. also man who sold the world... shit son. that's a great album.

I also think some of it is that I just got burnt out on Nirvanas, that may be why i like AiCs better
