He literally spent more time arguing with me about it than it would have taken him to just go to the library and actually learn the material and see for himself why he's wrong. It takes a special kind of person to be that adverse to learning a subject he claimed to both love and to be an expect in).

And everything he ever quoted was wiki'd. Oh god. The equations he posted, that he had no clue even where they began to make sense or didn't. Ugh.

To add to the 'learning shit in a day' example, when Max was around I was taking Calc 1 over the summer at a community college. I'm now going, all expenses paid, to 3 conferences on the west coast this summer in applied mathematics, have 2 physics and 1 math paid research projects, and am a year and a half from graduating with degrees in astrophysics and computational math.

Max never wanted to go to school and insisted he could learn everything on his own from wiki. It's a shame he was such an idiotic douchebag, because he really did have a passion for the stuff.

Then again, I guess getting an education doesn't automatically mean he wont be annoying. The cold fusion guys have PhDs. Hell, Brian Josephson has a freakin' nobel prize and he's basically what you'd get if MaxTM had a Psion's baby (but Psion's cool when he's not talking about psychic powers in our science threads).

Anyways, as long as Miz is around I don't think there will ever be another MaxTM. Miz is good at shutting people down when it's needed.

By the way, Miz, I don't know if I told you already, but I didn't get accepted to UNC. I'm doing two more years in Akron to get a second Masters and then I'm very likely going to go to UNC for my PhD starting fall 2014. You're still in North Carolina, right?

This. He pulled the same thing in the Asteroid mining thread and in Howies thread a few weeks ago. He only threw that disclaimer up because he got put on blast. I am in Columbia at the moment back at my alma mater, USC finishing my Cosmology degree. But yes, Charlotte is 45 mins away and I still have my house there and here too. I cant wait man, this has been a long time coming. I know how you think, but for real man, let me know if there is AMYTHING I can do to help you in any capacity. You know this already, but I like to keep it fresh.

What was funny was that half the wiki stuff he posted actually contradicted him and supported the person he was arguing with but he was too stupid to realize it. I spent half of special relativity argument basically saying "OMG they're saying exactly what I just said. Are you even reading your own sources???"

And yeah, the fact that he actually liked physics is frustrating because if he had just gone to school, he'd be in graduate school by now and he'd be able to actually contribute to the scientific fields he loved so much (and as a bonus, he wouldn't be annoying on the internet).

What are your math/physics projects on? I remember you sending me one paper with some PDEs on black holes (which I couldn't understand at all even though my master's thesis was on PDEs lol). And where are you going to grad school? We could talk on facebook if you don't want to hijack this thread (though it hasn't been on topic since page 1. Also, I use way too many parenthesis when I type).

I still work on my very first project in observational astronomy (eclipsing binaries, blah blah), I just finished up my math research in Aliasing error in Gegenbauer reprojections, and I am continuing my PDE work for the black holes (EMRIs) and making that more formally integrated with math too. I'll be attempting to find some finite difference method that is stable when applied to the radial equation then run analysis on it numerically over the summer. Joy. Lol.

Got asked to work on another problem in spectral methods but I'm not sure I really want to, lol. I almost died this semester, lol.

Oh hell yeah, Sath is going to be close too? I think my brother is still going to go to Duke so you guys can hang out with him (but I can't because he'll be my sworn enemy if I'm at UNC and he's at Duke). He's basically the social science version of Miz.

My top schools are still in MA and CA though. Berkeley, UC Davis, MIT, Harvard. But I'm starting to do more research into specialized programs that might be better fits. It's gonna come down to like 1-2 points on the QMII final I just finished today whether I get an A or an A-. A- would ruin the 4.0 I have in physics right now ~_~
