    Toys R Us late 80s ~ mid 90s

Was digging through some old crap and found my MegaMan X instruction booklet. Brought back old memories which also included the corny cartoon. Anyways it also reminded me of the day I picked it up at my local Toys R Us. As a kid I really liked going there. They had the best video game department ever. I remember walking down the aisles seeing hundreds of price slips filling both walls.

The best part was the last aisle with the giant glass display case holding all the consoles and expensive accessories. I could stare at that shit for days.

The icing on the cake was after you paid. You would have to pick up the game/console at the videogame pick up located in the front of the store near the exit. I always thought the guy that worked there had the best job in the world. Not sure about other Toys R Us's but mine had this narrow acrylic booth setup along the wall. The guy had it setup with a bunch of video game posters, advertisements, media that you couldn't see inside. If you peeked your head inside the booth you could see he had a small tv and console setup at the far end. He pretty much played all day when he wasn't fetching your stuff.

I couldn't believe I actually found pics. Apparently some stores still carry this layout...

I got my Sega CD from Toys R' Us, it was the last one they had in the store after Sega ended production, even had to scavenge the RF shield from the display model to make it a complete product. Also got Phantasy Star IV out of a sale bin for $20 at one, when I was in Baltimore visiting family.

Remember playing a demo Virtual Boy back then too.

Funny thing is, barring occasional stuff like that, I always amazed my grandmother. Only grandchild she had who she could walk in and out of the place without having spent a penny. (I knew what I wanted, and if they didn't have it, well, they just didn't have it. I never did get some of those Ice Planet sets.)

I always thought Toys R Us smelled really good, like new car smell kinda, but new toy smell? I don't know how to describe it. Shit was good tho.

Those pictures look amazing, they still sell GC accessories ? UK Toy R Us stores have mostly devolved into stores for under 10s. My local one doesn't even have a console section.

I started hating Toys R Us when the games I wanted started becoming more fringe and hard to find. Little did I know this scenario would become a common occurrence in my life. I got Earthbound here though which changed my life. Still remember that huge assed box it came in.

Lol, i went to apply for a job at the local toys'r'us.... i put my application in, then proceeded to steal about 10 packs of Star Wars card game cards. (the 1st edition, which back then a darth vader with black border was going for like 60 bucks) My friend was with me, and like some fucking dumbasses, we sat in my car in the parking lot opening the packs (got a millenium falcon/darthvader/han solo, no big deal) and the store manager rolled up and knocked on my window and was like "you gonna pay for that?"

didn't call the cops or anything as i was underage and the total was probably under 25$ worth of crap, but he did call my dad..... which royally fucking sucked. This was the conversation when i got home::

    "Hey dad"
    "...you get the job?"
"nah, i put my application in, but they weren't hiring"
"I KNOW THEY WEREN'T GOD DAMN HIRING, TAKE JON HOME AND GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE YOUR FUCKING GROUNDED!!!

Yeah, was totally worth it IMO, because fuck, i got to keep the cards. was "grounded for 2ish weeks" lmao

same here. sega cd and sewer shark made me hate my life in the 2nd grade.

man, those pics sure brought back some memories lol. i remember stealing one of those tickets when FF7 came out and holding it 1 week before Christmas and it was all sold out lol. i dont know if it had to relate to anything inventory wise, but i was still able to get one with the ticket i had previously at least lol
