You can't compare FFVII tech demo with this one. The former was just a random scene taken from a random existing FF and all they did was giving it pretty graphics. They also said time and again that a FFVII remake isn't happening.

This time it's different. Why would they even bother creating an entirely new setting and new characters just for a tech demo?

Alot of tech demos use original concepts not based on any game or series that exists.

Yes! Been following it for a year or so. It is one of the Sony Pub Fund games and I am really liking the looks of it. I was actually hoping to see more of it.
