    Shadow Of The Colossus

    Josh Trank has signed with Sony Pictures to develop to direct Shadow Of The Colossus, a big scale live action adaptation of the bestselling Sony videogame. The film is being produced by Kevin Misher. The studio is interviewing writers to work with Trank, who after directing the $13 million sleeper hit Chronicle has become the go to guy for big popcorn pictures. Trank takes on a Fumito Ueda-created game that has a strong narrative arc, along with the obligatory creature quotient to get the visual effects crowd excited.

    The protagonist is a young man who thinks his lover has died. Desperate to bring her back, he heads into a forbidden land, and summons a demon who can wake the dead. The price for bringing back his girl: slay 16 colossi that dominate this mystical place. These are skyscraper-sized giants that rise from the ground, fly through the air and come from the water. As the young man works through his quest on horseback, he begins to wonder if he is on a noble pursuit to bring back his lover, or perhaps has made a deal with the devil and is being used. Trank has been a fan of the game since it launched in 2005, and sought out the job.

    I have no idea how this will work at all tbh. The whole intrigue of the game was the epic feeling of beating a huge massive monster on your own (and the music). An actor doing it won't have the same effect. Plus there's no real story or dialogue in the game so that'll definitely come from scratch.

    Leave this one alone imo.

    I agree, I don't see how this can be done.

    Sounds like a terrible terrible idea for a movie. I loved the games but never wanted to see them adapted for film. Can't they just keep making resident evil movies and leave this alone? D:

    What is this I don't even.

    Why not just call it something else and have a movie about fighting giant monsters? There really isn't much that Colossus can offer for a movie.

    It could be a kind of cool artsy sort of movie, no spoken dialogue, and so on, but as a summer blockbuster type movie I just don't see how.

    Ugh, this is terrible. There's so many ways to fuck this up and probably no good way to truly do this. Seems like a doomed project from the start.

    There is a slim margin for an awesome movie. The potential for a train wreck is huge.

    I really don't see how they're going to do this at all. The game itself felt cinematic enough. On top of that it would have to only be like... one colossus for it to fit into a normal movie length if it stays true to the game.

    Shadow of the Colossus 1-16? {No, thanks.}

    Eh, maybe 3 or 4 colossus. Definitely would kill the cinematic effect if we get a montage of colossus 3-15, with only seeing 1, 2, and 16 in action.

    This movie would be awesome in imax though.

    If someone can make something compelling/profound out of this, that'd be GDT (Guillermo Del Toro).
