HD assets for upcoming 3DS title Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow - Mirror Of Fate already exist at developer MercurySteam, the game's producer has revealed.
Speaking to CVG in London this morning, Konami's head of UK studio Dave Cox confirmed the firm would "absolutely" consider an upgraded version of Mirror of Fate for home consoles, should it be successful on 3DS.
He said: "We created everything in high definition - all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything - and we kind of shrunk it all down into the 3DS.
"Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere."
Asked directly if the studio would consider an HD console version, Cox replied: "Absolutely, yeah. We would consider it.
"We want as many people to play it as possible. Obviously we have an exclusivity deal with Nintendo right now though and they've been very supportive of the product."
Mirror of Fate publisher Nintendo has confirmed a March 8 release date in the UK and a March 5 release date in the US.
Alright, so you portable 3DS homos get to work on buying this so I can get my console port.
Everyone wins.
You know, if I were them I'd be kind of concerned that making a comment like that could potentially gut 3DS sales. I own a 3DS, but with a potential console port on the table I can't really say I'm all too interested in rushing out to buy this for it now.
I see where you're going with that, but it shouldnt be an issue, because if no one buys it, we don't get out console version.
Plus, there's enough portafags that'll support it.
You guys should definitely go out and buy this. Save me the cash on buying a 3DS.
I am definitly buying this, allways loved castlevania titles, especially the ones on the gameboy/portable NIntendo consoles.
If its exclusive to Nintendo because they are publishing it, if it did get ported to console, wouldn't it just be on the Wii U as an exclusive?
Exclusive doesn't mean permanent. Could just mean they hold rights to the game for a year or so. After that, it'd be up to the dev to publish elsewhere.
It is a Nintendo Published game though and Nintendo very rarely lets a game they publish go to another console (have they ever actually?)
