    http://www.siliconera.com/2013/08/16...-asked-for-it/
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow focused on combat, but many fans of the series fondly remember Castlevania: Symphony of the Night which was lauded for its exploration elements. Konami listened to requests and added multiple paths to explore and optional boss fights for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Speaking to Siliconera, producer Dave Cox said most players only see 50% to 60% of the game their first time through. "We never wanted to do a game like Symphony of the Night. The problem of Symphony of the Night is a classic and it’s a game that doesn’t really have any real competitor, if you like. Even the games after it, I don’t think it’s as good as it. We never set out to make Metroidvania or Symphony of the Night style game," Cox said when we were talking about adding exploration to Lords of Shadow

"We set out to make a hack and slash game. The exploration aspect, is something that our fans told us ‘hey, we need more exploration this time around.’ That’s why we decided to start again our engine, to scrap it." "Rather than putting our our sequel one year later, we said let’s fix the things that we did wrong and let’s improve the things that we did well. That’s why this has taken so long to come out because we are working on it and we were working on and we wanted to make something that is really going to satisfy fans. Doing a knock-off sequel is not something we ‘d really ever consider. We wanted to do new things, new exciting things. This game is really different from Lords of Shadow 1. Although there are many things in common with that particular game, there is a lot of new stuff in there that people haven’t seen before in a Castlevania game. Certainly, you need need to keep an open mind with it," Cox continued.

I asked about Koji Igarashi who spearheaded Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and more recently worked on Otomedius Gorgeous. Cox said Igarashi was still at Konami and he saw him in passing while in Tokyo. Has Igarashi ever checked in on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow? "Not really," Cox answered. "When you work at a company like Konami and you are in charge of a franchise, and he was obviously he was in charge of Castlevania. It was his baby. It was his thing. There are certain things we won’t do in Lords of Shadow because we feel like it’s stepping on his toes. We don’t want to step on his toes. He’s been the guy that ran Castlevania longer than anyone else." "There are certain characters and certain things within his world that we wouldn’t bring into our game. Purely out of respect because we think that’s his baby and we don’t want to do that. But, I think he has always been supportive of the project right from the beginning. Since he’s not involved he won’t encroach on us or say ‘you can’t do this.’ He understands, and like I do once we finish this, when you pass the torch down to the next team you have to let those guys do their thing. Once the game is finished and if someone else does Castlevania I wouldn’t want to look over their shoulder saying that’s the wrong thing to do."
    also, a rumored collection http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/15/462...e-hd-listed-on
A Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection including an HD version of Nintendo 3DS game Mirror of Fate has been listed on PlayAsia.

According to the listing, the collection will cost $34.90 and be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The retailer lists the release date as sometime in October of this year.

The contents list includes a copy of the first Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, its Reverie and Resurrection downloadable content packs and an exclusive demo for upcoming title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. The listing also mentions Castlevania: Lords of Shadow — Mirror of Fate HD, a possible upgraded port of the 3DS version, which was released this past March.

"The complete collection with all the DLC and the HD Port of the Nintendo 3DS game," reads the item's description.

Back in February, Konami U.K. studio head Dave Cox said that HD assets for Mirror of Fate had been made by developer Mercury Steam, and that a console port was possible if the game found success on 3DS.

"We created everything in high definition — all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything -— and we kind of shrunk it all down into the 3DS," Cox said. "Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere."

Konami has yet to announced a Lords of Shadow collection or an HD port of Mirror of Fate. We have reached out to them for more details, and will share information as we receive it.

Feb. 25 in North America, Feb. 27 in Europe
Konami Digital Entertainment has used the annual gamescom event to announce that its heralded Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC on February 25th in the US, across Europe on February 27th, and in the UK on February 28th.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is the sequel to 2010's hugely acclaimed resurrection of the vampiric series, and builds on its critically acclaimed predecessor in every way. Following extensive consultation with Castlevania's enviable fan base, the sequel expands upon the acclaimed epic with a new storyline, villains and visuals. It also boasts a wealth of key additions that will provide a more open world and immersive experience, as players assume the role of Dracula, who has been resurrected in the present day and charged with defeating a powerful threat as old as time itself...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 picks up where the first game shockingly concluded, with Dracula in modern times weakend and yearning for release from his immortal bonds. Zobek his old ally makes him an offer in return for his help against Satan who is returning to the world to bring about the apocalypse and settle an old score for his defeat all those years ago.

The world of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 breaks new ground for the series, offering for the first time a truly open play area, which can be freely explored. Despite its modern setting, the game's city shows a Gothic legacy that harks back to Dracula's past, and is inhabited by a varied menagerie of Satan's hordes. Players can freely wander the city, returning to previously explored areas as they accrue new abilities, while an all-new fully movable camera allows users to pan around as they explore, highlighting the wonderful art direction the series is famous for.

The central combat elements have also been thoroughly enhanced, with the addition of a Void Sword that is used to steal life force from stricken foes, and Chaos Claws that can smash through even the strongest protection. These also tie in with Dracula's ability to strengthen his powers using the blood of his foes, allocating the resources he collects to build up specific skill attributes. Thus, from his weakened state, the player can determine the attributes that will assist him in his quest.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 marks the conclusion of Konami and MercurySteam's grand story, and is a suitably epic tale of evil and redemption. Every aspect of the game is bigger, bolder and deeper than its predecessor, while the scale of the game expands not just in terms of the sprawling city that Dracula explores, but within a quest that features more complex Titan battles; a wider range of foes, each necessitating a particular strategy to defeat; and an ultimate confrontation with the most heinous of adversaries.

"So now we come to the conclusion of the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow story," said Dave Cox, Producer on the title and Studio Head of European Production at Konami Digital Entertainment. "As such, we have gone all-out to create a fitting climax to one of the most warmly-welcomed series resurrections to date. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is bigger, more epic and more challenging - and tells a tale that will live on in video game lore forever."

I am ready to yet again not actually hit the Start Button once the loading screen completes and listen all the way through the chapter monologues instead. Day 1 buy, vacation time requested, etc.

Konami Digital Entertainment has used Halloween to update fans on key new elements to its vampiric Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and has outlined a series of pre-order incentives ahead of its February 28th release.

As attention turns to all things supernatural, Konami has released the packshot and a new themed trailer for the eagerly-awaited Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Named Dracula's Vengeance Trailer, Konami has issued an all-new trailer, focusing on Dracula as the game’s central anti-hero. Exploring the definitive vampire, the trailer focuses on the unwilling Dracula as he is charged with engaging an even more evil force: Satan himself.

Konami has also outlined the content for exclusive special editions and collectible content, available to pre-order.

    • Leading the line is a ‘Dracula’s Tomb Premium Edition’ which is beautifully encased in a tomb casing, contains a copy of the game, four highly detailed miniature figurines designed by comic book artist Neil Googe (Judge Dredd, Wildcats), an A4 hardcover art book, and an exclusive Steelbook. This stunning item is limited to just 30,000 units across Europe and will be available in the UK exclusively via GAME.

    • Konami has also created an alternative steelbook edition for pre-orders from Zavvi, which is encased in a metallic cover featuring an exclusive image of its central figure, Dracula. Those pre-ordering will also receive the alternate ‘Premium Dracula’ suit, a ‘Dark Dracula’ costume, or a ‘Relic Rune’ pack, that adds a wealth of relic items to the user’s inventory, dependent on where it is pre-ordered.
