    Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation (Vita)

First details on Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation have been shared today from the latest issue of Game Informer. Developed by Ubisoft Sofia, Liberation’s storyline won’t connect to Desmond; instead it will offer a different look at the Assassin/Templar conflict. The events of Liberation are described as a propaganda tool used by Abstergo which will have players experience a grey area of the conflict from the view of an assassin rather than a Templar.

Despite this change, the magazine clearly states Liberation has “true Assassin’s Creed gameplay” as the game takes place in open areas where you can run, climb, fight and explore the entire city of New Orleans without loading a new area.

Set in New Orleans, Louisiana towards the conclusion of the French and Indian War between the years 1765-1780, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation follows a female assassin named Aveline, whom has a mixed heritage of French and Black. Aveline’s mentor is named Agate, the leader of the assassins within New Orleans, but is also an escaped slave. It is also said that Assassin's Creed 3's main character, Conner, will meet with Aveline during the game.

Wildlife like alligators will act as an environmental threat as they wait on the banks of the swamps and hide beneath the gloomy waters. Liberation will take players across the Gulf and into Mexico. New weapons will include a sugarcane machete, pistols, muskets, and grenades.

The magazine also shares that Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation will have a multiplayer mode created especially for Vita. A Vita exclusive feature will allow you to pick pocket using Vita's touch mechanics.

I hope it doesn't end up like the PSP AssCreed game where it looks good visually, but feels like it doesn't have much meat to the overall product due to budget limits, and there being the money focus on the main Assassin's Creed game coming out around the same time.

Would be a hell of a game to try and show what the Vita could be capable of though this early in its life.

Was said that she was a double-agent so she's more than likely dead for good. Heard the real reason was that the voice actress didn't want to sign to do anymore games so they just killed the character off instead of signing another voice. Shitty way to kill off a character but when you have a deadline to keep, I guess they have no other choice.

    Press release:

Introducing Assassin’s Creed III Liberation, the stunning new chapter in the Assassin’s Creed saga, designed exclusively for PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system.

The year is 1765. As the events leading up to the American Revolution heat up in the north, Spanish forces plan to take control of Louisiana in the south – but they have yet to reckon with Aveline, a deadly Assassin who will use every weapon and ability in her arsenal to win freedom for her land and her people. Whether silently eliminating her enemies with slow-motion chain kills or luring them into deadly traps, Aveline strikes mortal fear into the hearts of those who stand in her way.

As an Assassin, Aveline soon finds herself on an unforgettable journey that will take her from the crowded streets of New Orleans to voodoo-haunted swamps and ancient Mayan ruins. She will play a pivotal role in the turbulent birth of a new nation as she fights for freedom, not only for herself, but for her fellow citizens.

    Key Features:

    ● A cunning new assassin as Aveline, an Assassin of mixed French and African heritage, you must use your skill, instinct and weaponry – including a machete, poison-dart blowpipe, and duelling pistols – to hunt down and eliminate your enemies.

    ● Experience a lifelife world Feast your eyes on a richly detailed world, thanks to an all-new game engine featuring groundbreaking physics, animation and a new combat system. Outmaneuver your enemies in the Louisiana bayou with an innovative Tree Navigation system, then eliminate them from above with deadly precision. Dive deep underwater as you search for lost Mayan treasures, but stay alert; the hostile wilderness and humid swamps are full of menacing animals.

    ● Designed exclusively for PS Vita Take full advantage of PlayStation®Vita system touch pads, motion sensor and built-in camera to execute slow-motion chain kills, pickpocket unsuspecting victims and pursue your enemies in a canoe. This is an immersive experience designed purely for PlayStation®Vita system.

Soooo this question isn't exactly about this particular game, but all the handheld Assassin's Creeds in general, but...

Do these offshoot Assassin's Creed games have anything present-day story (i.e. someone's doing this through the animus), or are these just random stories about random prestigious assassins throughout history.

I've always been skeptical of handheld offshoots after Kingdom Hearts did all sorts of weird shit, so I haven't played any of the Assassin's Creed ones.

Only played AC:Bloodlines(PSP) as far as offshoots go, and it was pretty much a throw-away story and was focused solely on other affairs with Altair with the usual Animus style loading screens and fake-glitches and shit. Pretty sure the DS & iOS spin-offs/prequels/whatever are of the same setup.

I'm really hoping AC3:Lib is more than that, but I feel this'll just be yet another 'little brother' limited budget game for the Vita as the PSP suffered a lot with. Am curious though if building a new game from the ground up was a better option for both Sony and Ubisoft on the Vita than trying to squeeze/dumb-down their existing AC3 project onto it.
