Small Business firewall / Sonicwall vs. Fortigate vs. anything else - opinions please

    Hello,

I want to and got the go-ahead to upgrade our router/firewall. We are currently on a "high end" Netgear which just plain sucks for what I want to do. I have a few friends with more grown up hardware experience saying go Sonicwall (was looking at the TZ 215), my gf's brother who deals with this stuff full time says go Fortinet/Fortigate, and I've seen a few strangers online recommend certain Cisco models and Sophos (formerly Astaro).

Basically the features and price of the Sonicwall TZ 215 looked great to us and I was about to order one until her brother told me to stop. Now I'm wondering what our best option really is. A lot of forums I've found make it sound like Fortigate is technically a little more secure, but Sonicwall is nicer to deal with.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Never really used a Fortigate so I'm gonna go ahead and suggest the SonicWall. Been using them for a while now and they're pretty simple to set up and offer a lot of good features. Plus you get like 2 Global VPN licenses with purchase. Also if shit goes wrong - SonicWall support is top notch.

Just keep in mind that making a change somewhere doesn't mean that it automatically sets up the appropriate NAT policy for that rule. Remember this and you wont rage.

Thanks Kuro, if he doesn't get back to me today with a good reason & alternate model to get from Fortinet I'll probably go ahead with the TZ 215.
