So, this is a movie with a controller? Have developers just given up? Or have they figured out that they can get paid millions to make a mo-cap movie?
If you ever played Heavy Rain you should've expected this.
Those are some all over the place reviews. But considering that Heavy Rain is one of my favorite games of all time, I'm guessing I'll likely agree with the Gamespot review over the IGN one. Hope I'm not wrong, otherwise it could be very disappointing.
From what I took out of the IGN review... it seemed that all the time jumping didn't do it for the reviewer. What I found interesting was the reviewer basically said how it starts out w/ Jody as a child > young teen > ect... ect... > but then jumps back to her as a child at some point. If that's the case then I can understand that being kinda annoying.
Either way i loved Heavy rain so I plan to get this regardless.
You can't lose though? I don't know about this. It doesn't seem like anything you do changes the story.
After recently going over the story of Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, I've learned to stay the fuck away from any David Cage game.
I watched Indigo Prophecy as a 'Let's Play' and it was played pretty much for laughs. Then I watched Heavy Rain being played and it was a much more emotional journey. I fully expect this game to be gut wrenching and bleak like Heavy Rain, but I very much like that there's no guarantee of a happy ending, much like life. By the way, I'm watching Jesse Cox's let's play for this as he's a fanboy of David Cage and I want to this game to be fun to watch too as his reactions are what make it for me.
Oh and before you say watching a game being played sucks, I don't have a PS3 and to be honest, my track record in completing games is zero. I've bought nearly all the Final Fantasy games and never finished them. Ended up watching let's plays of those too...
Fuck you all Indigo Prophecy was awesome. Except for the endings. That was really jumping the shark.
The Two Best Friends LP of Indigo Prophecy was about the funniest damned thing I've ever seen.
Anyway, my game's only froze once so far, but it stutters a fair amount.
It was great but fucking hilarious at times. The sex scenes, fighting giant fleas, fighting like Neo etc.
The jumping around doesn't bother me (considering the opening lines state she can't keep her memories in order) and the IGN girl said combat was hard... I stopped reading after that.

Before you run out to pick up your copy, we have one final trailer to get you excited about Quantic Dream’s tour de force, starring Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe.
It’s been an incredible journey bringing this game to your doorsteps, and we’re so excited to finally get what promises to be a true evolution in storytelling mediums into your hands. Earlier in the year, we were honored with an official selection by Tribeca Film Festival where we blew audiences away with Beyond’s cinematic presentation and performances.
Media and fans alike walked away from E3 impressed with the fluid control scheme, and the way David Cage and team have advanced the gameplay from Heavy Rain to deliver a more immersive experience. Then, last week, our friends in Europe hosted an incredible red-carpet premiere for the game at the famed Grand Rex theater in Paris.
Beyond represents a step forward in terms of how stories are told and how developers can blur the line between games and cinema. It’s a truly unique experience – with gripping performances delivered in full performance capture by Ellen and Willem, unparalleled cinematic presentation, and a powerfully emotional and thrilling story which branches based on your successes and failures. If you’re a fan of great storytelling, Beyond is an experience which is not to be missed.
Every person is going to have a different experience with this game, in part because of how many variations the story can take, and in part because different moments of Jodie’s life will resonate differently with each person. By living Jodie’s story, you’ll help create your own. Now go grab your copy so you don’t get hit by spoilers!
lol those reviews are literally all over the place
Wow, you're not kidding. I don't think I've ever seen a more inconsistent review board. Either you love it or hate it, I guess.
I played the first 90 minutes or so last night, and really enjoyed it. So far I'm doing very mundane things like taking tests, going to parties, etc. I expect at some point it will get into the meat of the story, as I still definitely feel like I'm in the Prolog.
And I'm digging the jumping around of the chronology part. The "graph" showing where in the time line each scene occurs is a nice touch.
Well, there's your GOTY boxart phrase. "The most polarizing game experience in years".
Not that big on the right-analog controls in this. More used to the floating button prompts in Heavy Rain so I know when I'm about to interact with something. In Beyond, I end up 'initiating and stopping' some actions because I was trying to move the camera instead, and that shit is always awkward. There's also the other problem I also had with Heavy Rain, which is no means of holding down a button just to speed yourself up a little faster, because you're always walking at a snails pace outside of action sequences. Drags the pace of the game down for me because I'm the type that likes exploring all the details and interactive props in an environment, and seeing how the stage is set to keep you leashed to a particular area.
Action sequences on the other hand feels like Dragon's Lair Jr. Aiden sequences are always fun though. Someone needs to take the ghost parts of Beyond and make it into a puzzler/freak-out-the-residents game.
Played the demo it is no Heavy Rain. Hate to say it but would rather them just make a new Heavy Rain with different people, story etc. Not a bad game just not a must play game.
