It could reset over time, or even be a one-time-per-aetheryte (giving an incentive to explore new areas and do this at as many different camps as possible). I firmly believe main scenario quests should give you the majority of the EXP needed to level up at the level they become available. Give a significant and tangible reward for diversity in your XP'ing, and I think you'd have a lot better received of a game.
Currently the storyline missions give you almost 3/4s of a level's worth of exp for the level you get the mission at. I feel its fine there. Just the gap between missions sucks. Spend more time grinding to the next one.

Also they confirmed that the maps with have a shroud that is uncovered as you explore the areas. All they gotta do is reward exp for this.

Basically anything and everything you do in the game should count towards your progression. Especially in a game where you can level any and all classes/jobs. At the moment you can run out of sidequests on one class/job and your next one will be stuck grinding leves and exp pts.

Edit: As for loot system... It was confirmed that that was something that could not be changed in this version of the game.

Server/Client/Engine issues, I'm going to assume, are also the reason everyone was expecting Behest or Hamlet Defense to work something like Campaign in FFXI. Mass scale battles with with PCs/NPCs all over the place would fucking suck in the current version.

I'll give Yoshi-P the benefit of the doubt considering the shit hes working with. That shit will NOT fly once 2.0 is installed on people's machines.

Forgot to mention and this touches upon the server systems and character creation... New characters should not be dropped into any of the three towns. They should start at a Hamlet or other small town and do quests that eventually bring them to Ul'Dah/Limsa/Gridania. If they did this initially they would not have the issue they currently have with character creation and congestion in Ul'Dah.

For anyone that played WoW - imagine if all new characters were dumped in Orgrimmar. That would be a fucking disaster.

Yoshida's said they're going to finish the original story (don't have a reference sorry, was in an interview a while back), the whole script's finished and a lot of the cutscenes apparently.

I'm hoping they'll restructure it and change the levels around so that it's basically 1-2 quests per level/other level up to lv35 or so, assuming there are a fair few left to finish the story arc. Then we'll have the new story regarding the dragons etc pick up from 40 or so and be a more challenging set of missions all round. As far as I'm concerned, the main scenario should probably provide a large chunk of exp for your first class up to a decent level to 'hook' people (obviously they might wanna tweak some missions to not be so damn boring), and then ideally there'd be a wealth of fun new content that isn't the shitty guild leve system to follow up with new classes.

Hopefully the whole starting experience is revamped a bit so they don't just ignore the giant cataclysm that's gone on between you joining and other people, and I'd hope a new starter area would be included to support that.

^ Looking back on that, I forgot that XI started the same was as XIV, just dumping you randomly in town with no rhyme or reason, and XIV does little to improve on that. You get no sense of where your character came from or anything. It hasn't been the norm since, well, XI's generation of MMOs, as most high-caliber (budget and design, not execution-wise) MMOs start you in a hub and work your way towards the capital city within a few levels.

It'd be nice to see in 2.0, especially if they're going to put a huge focus on being able to better customize your character's looks. I don't want to see them rip off of GW2's system or anything, but it would be nice to be able to pick just a little about about your character's origins, or at least their personality type.

@ Lucavi I always thought of the 3 starter cities as "hubs" in ffxi and you worked your way to Jueno. My first char was a Mithra so I started in Windy just because it felt natural. Made a Galka later and started him in Bastok. Nobody really hung out in the stater cities after they hit a certain level.

I honestly believe that shouldve been their focus from the start. This is what will bring in static offliners and generally uninterested player to try their online.

I think this has been upped a lot since I did them, so that's good.

    /fingers crossed

I'm somewhat OK with your first class being easier to level than the rest. Even though there are some "required" abilities you want to get, I think you have a nice accessible game where progression can be faster for a casual who only has interest in taking one job to cap; but not have as much hand-holding for someone who wants to take all jobs to cap.

For a long time, I felt bad that Yoshi-P was locked in to working on a disaster not of his making and couldn't execute his own vision from scratch. But now it seems like he's really taken the helm and made this his own... HOPE.

Personally, grinding isn't for me, but I think exp system in xiv is fine the way it is. The quest system is super boring, as are the leve quests. The game is need of some serious mile markers. This could be new instances, new gear sets, something... to reward you for staying with it. As it stands right now it's a rush to cap. The one thing they did right initially with xi was placing mile markers at levels. Adv class quest, subjob quest, kazham, AF1~5, level caps. People would later see these as hassles, but when you have an active playerbase with wide variety of level range it was content. Some of the simplest tasks/quests turned out to be epic journeys. Some may say I'm looking through rose colored glasses, but I disagree. I was actually having so much fun I didn't have much time to think about what I was missing out at lv 75.

Add this element to the game and you wouldn't have to worry people with rushing to cap to actually enjoy the game

If they just kinda wedge these things in I'd be a bit confused. But if they manage to do it right they'll be really cool. Seeing stuff like the DRG armor with that graphics level was amazing. If they add more things from earlier games I'll be excited. Maybe a "Magical Colosseum" to add fights with old bosses or something. As for Ivalice and Cocoon, Cocoon I can only imagine is either Dalamud(wut) or they have some type of portal too. Eorzea could easily be a different continent on the world Ivalice is on, no? I can't remember if that planet was named at all, or if it was just named Ivalice. I wouldn't mind being able to explore Arcadia with 2.0's engine.

That was actually my first thought after hearing cocoon specifically, and I feel bad for it XD.

I meant if the planet Ivalice resided on was ever named, or if it was just Ivalice? I knew Eorzea's was named.

I think its the world since their is multiple continents present in FFXII each with their own name and numerous countries.

Ivalice seems like a better fit than Cocoon simply due to the art director (the other Yoshida). I admit I haven't played FFXIII though.

I don't think he was referring to Dalamud because that thing is crashing onto Eorzea soon enough. Cocoon is an artificial planet and something like that could easily be found in Garlemand with all their technology.
Ivalice as a continent could be a nice excuse to add a few more races (Viera, Bangaa, Nou Mou, different kind of Moogles).

A shitload of content? Not really, it takes maybe a month to do everything in the game, maybe less.

(Not directly a reply to you, just using this as an anchor)

This is directly what bugs me about XIV, maybe unduly so. There is a ton of stuff to do but some of it (mostly the ancient content like faction leves and the old NMs like Dodore and Great Buffalo) is irrelevant now. Content from what I remember (stopped shortly after 1.22) is just different flavors of primal fights or dungeons. Darkhold became pointless practically a month later with materia. Maybe I stopped looking at the exact turning point (AV/Cutters/Garuda/Hamlets are ok I guess?), but I can't shake the feeling that 2.0 is literally going to be more flavors of dungeons or primals. Looking back on XI I don't even know for sure what it is I'm asking for exactly, since HNMs, Dynamis, Sky, Sea, (whatever else) were all just different flavors of "kill shit" too. Rose-tinted glasses in effect maybe.

I don't blame the dev team for it, but they are really shooting themselves in the foot by showing most of their cards and playing them early in an attempt to appease fans (what they started doing from around 1.19ish onward, see aformentioned Darkhold -> materia example). There's a fine line between acknowledging complaints and caving completely and they might be leaning a bit too far to caving to my taste.

Edit: And speaking of caving, ugh throwbacks. Way to piss on your own handcrafted lore. Try to shoehorn in other FFs and keep a straight face, I dare you.
But no really I don't care what kind of throwbacks they make, just make the content mean something.

More than content, finding people to do it with is the hardest thing. Then after you find those people, you gotta pray they have half a brain (or the patience to wipe until you get it right).

Tall order if you ask me.
