Well I don't think you would want to hunt then with random people then, as it's a drop (a card) so I guess one person has to hold it?

lol I really don't see what sounds so convoluted about the system. It's as easy as one company holds the power to summon a primal after it's defeat, and once other requirements are met, within a two week(may change) time period, which will release the primal back to the wilds for the world to use.
Not gonna go digging for links, but I also remember earlier talks Yoshi mentioning something about a cooldown timer which makes sense because everyone knows SE loves their CD timers. With that in mind it would be highly unlikely any one Free Company can dominate all of the world summons. I vaguely remember Yoshi stating you would only be allowed to join one Free Company at a time.
Yeah he said Companies would be your 'established' community while linkshells remain a loose connection of communities. He said something like 4 people are needed to form a company (like normal guilds are in MMO's) and you can only be part of 1 at a given time. If there is a cool down timer to when your company can re obtain a summon then it solves any issues in regards to monopolization by one guild/company. Furthermore there is more then 1 primal, we know of 6 maybe 7 already (Ramuh, Shiva, Leviathan, Titan, Garuda, Ifrit, and maybe Mog if they consider him to be of equal importance to those 6) so another good way to keep the primals competitive is making it so free companies can only keep one summon at a time.
Actually speaking of Primals, now that we know they are public mobs, I wonder how and where we will be able to claim Leviathan considering he is a huge (HUGE) serpent in the sea. Maybe a boat battle?
Free Companies are Guilds by the way. From my understanding, they are intended for end-game use. Not to be confused with Linkshells which will be demoted to just another "Chat Channel".
Based on what we know about summoning primals the following things can be assumed:
- Can only hold for X amount of time.
- Odds are these primals are going to be saved by Free Companies for when they're fighting new bosses (hard content).
- Because of the above it would be really hard (take a lot of people) to monopolize a primal.
- As long as theres no pop timer, as in the primal is ready to be fought/reobtained immediately or shortly after its usage, high level FCs will keep bouncing possession of these primals.
- Also if there is no pop timer then there is no camping - just a mad dash to search and destroy after the weather effect goes away.
As long as primals are not NEEDED for any content and their only reward is a fuck ton of AoE damage to whatever you're fighting then this shouldn't be too bad. This'll be hard to balance because it needs to be strong enough that it's useful but weak enough that it isn't necessary.
On top of the weather effects... I want everyone to get a server-wide message saying "<Free Company> has taken control of Primal Shiva." "<Free Company> has called forth the Primal Shiva."
Didn't Yoshida say that the primal battles will stay but have additional loot? Seems kinda contradictary. Also, one of the SSes does have a chat screen where players are talking about meeting at Howling Eye so that is probably staying.
Just thought I would chime in to say fuck Blitzball as it was the worst thing ever.
They should adapt Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon for the chocobo training thing.
Blitzball would be hard to implement... All I want in terms of mini-games is Triple Triad. lol :/
- All normal monsters have %10 drop rate for their cards.
- Bosses have 5% drop rate for their cards (clearly these cards have better stats).
- Can buy booster packs in town as a gil sink 150k/pack. (chance at rare boss card per pack)
- Ability to challenge anyone standing near you in any zone. Right Click -> Triple Triad! I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL!
- Some NPCs have a chance to use a rare card.
So simple and so awesome... This would add SO much fun to the game. I honestly would log in just to shoot the shit and play some TT with people in town. Yet it's not confirmed.
Can I haz?
Spoiler: show
In FFXI when they introduced the game tables in Jeuno and other assorted cities. They should of integrated the ALREADY MADE Tetra Master into the tables. Then improved Tetra Master so it wasn't one-sided as shit.
Like the other primals. He's not huge and this new model is much more like the classic Leviathan than the sea serpent we see in the opening.
Also Yoshida never said the current primal battles and drops will be removed. He said that the content linked with the 7th Umbral Era storyline will disappear and that includes the quests needed to access Ifrit and Garuda.
