I don't dispute that legacy players will be able to log in to 2.0 and play their existing character. The issue that concerns me is whether the entirety of 2.0 release content will be at-no-extra-charge. The amount of content they are adding is entirely consistent with what would normally be an expansion; if they are going to give that away in the name of goodwill, awesome. But I wouldn't be surprised if there is some new content at 2.0's release that requires purchase-to-unlock, and I would be outright shocked if the PS3 release comes and goes without SE reaching into the pockets of the PC base.

When 2.0 hits there is going to be no pre-2.0 content. They're taking the game down for a month to migrate all the pre-2.0 character data to the new 2.0 content.

I don't care if I get an infraction for saying this.

    You're fucking retarded.

Was very serious. Couldn't tell it was a hax looking at it from my phone. That's twice you got my hopes up now about this game lol.

i wouldnt be too sure about the point about downloading XIV on PS3.
with broadband technology as it is now, downloading the entire XIV client, which would be like maybe a few gigs (idk, XIV is like 12G on PC, and PS3 version would probably be more compressed... ) so 10g really isn't a lot, and can be done pretty quickly.

you can also be sure when PS3 beta comes along, that will be the method of distribution, because its also a lot cheaper to do (than the old way of mailing shit out to testers).

Personally, I'd buy the disc if there was one because I'm a collector of FF titles released on PS like that.

The PS3 comes with a whole new level of problems. For example in order to download 10 gigs of stuff you'll need 20 gigs of space because the PS3 needs room for the download and the install at the same time. This is true for all the updates as well unless SE has some sort of alternative method.
For older PS3s this isn't exactly possible as it fills your HDD quickly. I'm planning to buy a new one for XIV anyway, no way I'm gonna use my old 80 GB PS3 with it, it's full enough as it is.

You know, it is possible to replace the HDD that comes with a PS3 with an SSD and see some very noticeable performance gains regarding load times.

Yes, I understand that you (plural) are saying that all of the content that is released with 2.0 will be 100% free and included. In fact, if I had to lay odds, I would probably go in the same direction. But I would neither be shocked nor outraged if there is also "premium content" that just happens to be released at the same time as 2.0.

What ever happened to that reporter from the website nova crystallis that tweeted how impressed she was with the new engine and was going to release a write-up? The site has been down for a day and a half now.

From a post in the NeoGAF thread she should have it up by tomorrow evening at latest, either at nova crystallis or rpgsite.net.

Graphics are the last issue 14 has, its just shit. No point in caring until you can see some real change in simple mechanics.

Yeah because when wanting to salvage a failing title you certainly pull dick moves to succeed.

I wouldn't necessarily say that is more of a dick move than when SE simultaneously announced that:

    1) the current version of XIV is so fundamentally broken that it cannot be repaired, and must be completely replaced from the ground up
    2) in 3 months, we will start charging you to play this unfixably broken game

I mean, you have companies like Capcom including finished DLC on the disc and locking out features to preserve platform exclusivity. It has been common practice in MMOs for nearly a decade that you release a clearly unfinished product by the deadline (no matter what) and charge players while you fix it. This is the world we live in today.

The class/job system still makes me want to puke, turrible, probably the only thing that keeps my interest levels low even for 2.0.

What's bad about it, the interface or the concept or some 3rd thing?

Right now, my problem with it is that there aren't enough buttons to push, I have to level too far into other classes to get necessary abilities, and I have to gather a party to get job abilities. Meaning I have to find people to get the abilities that make the Job different enough from the Class to make it superior in a party. Meaning I have to find friends. Friends I would have to make by doing well in a party. A party I won't be my best in until I get friends to help me with something that won't directly benefit them. I won't immediately have friends in this game because my other friends don't like this game and I'm not going to force them to play it.

The concept doesn't bother me because I liked FFT and I liked what FFXI tried to do even if it bit off more than it could chew. When you get down to it, Jobs will eventually be PT-only specs, so any problems I might have are with the interface.

What, no offer to take it outside?

To be clear, this is what I'm saying:

    - 2.0 will be offered for sale at retail
    - there will be some sort of paid-for premium content in the 2.0 retail box
    - whether this paid-for premium content is a throwaway item (e.g. onion helm) or something significant (e.g. new class) is far from certain

But if you're saying that there Definitely Will Not Be Anything Extra in the 2.0 box, sure, I'd take that "bet."

Some sort of bonus content that veteran players won't get automatically for trudging through the mire of pre-2.0? Game on motherfucker name your stakes.

Also your entire argument has evolved so much. Initially it was "Yeah there's going to an expansion worth of content they're going to add to this that we're still going to pay for" and now it's a "bonus item".

    So weak.
