Niche-based offense? Piss-poor defense for absolutely no reason? All we need now are strange and random mods on the AF, like CHR being in abundance, and we've got the trifecta of SE failure. Wheee~!!!
Maybe one day, defense/vitality/resists will matter even just a little bit in SE's games.
Melee classes became all but worthless when the THM BLM reform came into play. That job is waaaaaaaaaaaay to fucking powerful and fills every DD role since it has low recast single targets DMG that's better then most melee's WS and low recast AoE that's again better then any melee. There are some places were you can swap in MNKs in place of BLM and BLM AoE is worthless on garuda adds, but even then the DPS isn't that much different in the end. The biggest fix DRG could hope for is an outright BLM nerf because nothing is going to stop the masses from using what is the easier path to win a fight.
No, not at all. Dragoon is nothing like it was in XI and it surely is much better now. I honestly don't know what people are smoking here to say that Dragoon is worthless... have you even tried bringing one along? <_<
Its lack of defense is completely irrelevant when the game completely bypasses your defense rating due to level difference and it has the highest offense among all DDs in the game. It also has all the tools to get rid of hate and not get hit at all.
Oh and Invigorate, let's not forget Invigorate with that trait that increases duration and DRG AF body increasing its effect.

DRG in FF14 is a very interesting job.
Maybe not properly balanced, but to add to what others already explained, it plays very nicely and reminds me of SAM : you have plenty of TP to use, and ways to customize your WSes.
Plus, the AF has been done nicely and you wont look like a retard using it for endgame content.
Aside from this, what's with people saying MNK's evasion is worth a shit in any endgame content?
The whopping +8 they get from traits and the little more they might have if they use certain AF pieces (if they even use AF) means dick.
When it comes to surviving fights there's really not much of a difference between MNK and DRG. They're gonna take similar AoE damage and they both have 2nd wind (MNK's being ~300 hp stronger, wow, that's like almost 2 whole regen ticks) they both have featherfoot and decoy, in addition DRG has Dread Spike (I think most don't even remember this exists) and if you're good at timing it, elusive jump can avoid AoE.
DRG has better hate mitigation and more single-target attack saves, MNK has a stronger 2nd wind. Anyone that thinks Fists of Earth is a useful defensive tool in an endgame situation has no idea how defense works (or rather, doesn't work) nvm that you're potentially killing your damage by using it depending on what you're fighting.
I feel like we're being too general when we're playing a game where there are literally 3-4 events worth talking about.
Does anyone have parsers of DRG keeping up with a MNK in Miser's, Chimera or Garuda though (single-target)? I'm genuinely curious. Ideally, both the DRG and MNK being played by people who know how to press buttons.
I know DRG can do good on the adds for those fights, but at that point it's not competing with a MNK slot anymore which is what the conversation seems to be about.

Yes, i have topped parses on DRG at misser at 140dps+, this is post patch of course. Though, to be fair my LS MNK isn't the best, not triple melded stuff and all, and i have advantage of having all the darklight i need (corselet, caligae, helm). But, i believe they will perform on par if you gear them similar.
For Garuda, i was on top of parse with 36k? i think the MNK at 26k then followed by the BLM somewhere near the MNK. But, i wasn't sure if they filtered out plumes. That might be why my damage is way further. I guess you can't really parse garuda if you want DPS comparison because you have to kill clones/plumes.
