They really need to put a current version of the client online. Just built a new system so having to download every patch since beta ended. I'm estimating that it's over 3gb based on my download speed and time remaining. I have fast internet so it's no problem, but many people don't.

I've experienced this, but TERA doesn't do cross server lfg stuff right? If not, that's one thing that SE will do to keep that wait down.

TERA cross-servers, yeah. It really doesn't help when there's only one tank in the game. Its a huge flaw that cripples a portion of the game, and there's nothing that the NA side can do, because everything has to come through Korea.

Hopefully there's a filter system or something as well. Never tried any recent MMOs so not sure what to expect. All I know is if it's like Spiral Knight's system, the game is screwed.

When I played Tera on Korean servers I never had to wait as long as I did on NA servers. I think lots of people just avoid using it which may repeat in XIV. Technically speaking you can use the current party search like content finder since you can put your party into recruitment and request what jobs you want. However, it's something that's not in your face and people dont use it.

I think with the more responsive UI and quick to find buttons and better availability will make people want to use it. The only reason people don't use the LFG/Search Tool in 1.0 is because it takes forever to setup everything.

Did they ever fix the search system only looking at the level of your active class by any chance?

I believe they did. They've been slowly adding onto the search feature every other patch. From what I can understand, its quite a beefy menu to go through...

I don't think this is quite as much of a problem in a game where you can change classes.

Presuming that the loot system is something like Need/Greed, as long as they let you select the job you want to Need for at the outset, I don't think it should be an issue. Just like lots of people leveled BRD or SMN specifically to gain merits, you would see people leveling the high-demand auto-group classes specifically for the purpose of spamming auto-group dungeons.

Can someone explain Need/Greed to me, because I have no idea wtf it is and the idea I'm romanticizing it be is better than the real thing I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure It's just like a "1st pick & 2nd pick" if you did that for Dynamis back in the day. If anyone has something in their 1st pick (need) they will only compete for it with others who also had it as their 1st pick. You will only get to roll on items for your 2nd pick (greed) if no one else has it listed as their 1st pick.

I might be oversimplifying it a bit, I'm not sure, but I think the only other thing is that your "need" pick is always based on your main job/class while your "greed" pick is going to be based on other, secondary classes/jobs you play.

Normally, need is for items you're going to use while greed is items you'll be selling. In terms of untradable equipment, need would be something you are going to use right now, while greed will be something you are going to use on a future job.

So there's a general loot pool for all members to see, then loot pools generated off the things flagged as Need/Greed?

Pretty much this. You have your primary class that you designate as "Need," which does not have to be the same class that you are currently on (<--- this is important). The system should not let you click Need on an item if your designated Need class cannot equip said item. When an item drops, all players have the opportunity to click Need or Greed; Needs take priority. Greed is basically the equivalent of freelotting; no restrictions.

Need/Greed is essentially a freelotting system that typically prioritizes those classes who can equip a piece of gear over those who cannot. If 2 people in a party of 5 can equip a piece of gear, those two will be given the option to need the item. Should they need it, they will freelot against one another, with the highest lot winning. If one opts to greed, while another needs, the one who needed will receive it. If both opt to greed, then the freelot opens to anyone else who greeded. Obviously, anyone who passes on the item will not get a chance to roll at all.

    That's it in a nutshell.

Yeah this would only happen for valuable loot like gear/colored (name) items. Everything else (vendor trash) is round robin where each player in the party takes turns looting corpse for trash items. You can also set the loot threshold so that items below the threshold are treated as trash drops.

Gonna oversimplify the whole thing using common Dynamis loot rules:

Need - Your first pick. Only people that wanted to roll on DRG gear can roll on DRG etc.
    Greed - FREEEEEE LOOOOOOOTTTTT!

You've really never played WoW? I really thought that was something every MMO player has done at least once.
The way WoW does it is there is one loot pool. When it drops it's shown on the screen and you must choose Need/Greed/Pass before time is up. Timeout = auto-pass. Classes that can't use can't need. Certain items can't be needed. Everyone picks Need/Greed/Pass, item drops to highest priority. Need Priority = x + 100, Greed = x, Pass = 0. Basically, need rolls will make greed rolls meaningless.

WoW also has QM, but fuck that shit unless you're raiding.

Never played WoW. XI was my first and only other than XIV. Also, thanks for the answers, that clears up what I thought versus what it is.

People who play FFXIV are not MMO players.

It sounds like you have to manually camp the loot pool and click Greed or you get nothing at all.

Is there any equivalent of auto-lot?
