FFXIV 2.0 Screenshots from E3

The moment I saw those numbers and font, definitely FFXII! I'm liking it a lot compared to the the current FFXIV style.

I am -really- praying Yoshida is the one to resurrect this numbered Final Fantasy. So far so good... but there are still large hurdles to overcome, as I'm sure anyone who's read this thread will realize.

I think the biggest part will be trying to win back anyone who felt betrayed by the initial bombed release of FFXIV. The scars of that disaster probably still sting after all.

As a Final Fantasy fan too, I just really want them make this a game that people, being current players, skeptics, other fans, whatever, can be impressed with or at the very least, acknowledge it.

Maybe it's naive, but who knows what'll happen after all.

I'm a bit skeptical about this whole X|V real time stuff. After searching twitter and doing a 1 hour search on XIV I can't find anything other than that 1 tweet. I can't seem to find anything else. E3 is really only opened to the press right? I think we would be seeing more buzz on real time XIV besides 1 tweet on twitter.

Anyway, the important thing is that just by looking at a few comments, quite a lot of people are interested in giving it another shot and really that's what counts. Of course, there's also quite a few people who are going to wait to make sure it doesn't flop again, but looking at Kotaku and seeing positive responses really surprised me considering how pessimistic their community usually is.

The post says it was an interview, so it could have been a one on one thing since 1UP is also getting an interview with them.

Graphics were never the problem, it was the engine that handled them that sucked.

You are right, I should have added server/client stuff to the list, but I would argue that graphics are part of the problem. From the dated UI/inventory to the drab and lifeless color palette and world design (and yes, graphic engine issues as well)... there are many individual things in the game that look amazing, but as a whole are just boring and dull.

I've stuck with XIV since beta, but the last couple of weeks I've been sorely tempted to try something new just so I feel like I'm playing a game from this decade. Until today.

Maybe not 100% "graphics", but there's something wonky about the camera IMO, too. For a game that's been so much about fighting multiple mobs at once, I've never felt like the perspective has been correct and gives you a good view of what's going on.

Will 2.0 hit beta this time around for those of us that bought the game the first time? I would certainly hope so as I'd like to try this out (again). I guess it's my fanboy side or my loyalty (stupidity) but I'd like to see this game succeed and not be a pile of trash that it was originally (is currently). With that being said, I'm not sure SE is ready for 2012/2013 when it comes to MMOs especially looking at all the things that GW2 is offering.

Overall.. they lured us/me in with pretty pictures the first time, I'll wait on a verdict of people playing before I try again, they won't fool me a 2nd time with pretty pictures (unless they show more female miqo'te) O_o

I don't think anyone mentioned it yet, but in the screenshots you can see the action bar includes slots for '-' and '^' as well as the usual '1' - '0'. (Different keyboard layout? Would expect '+' there.)

There are three things they've got to overcome in 2.0. Graphics, battle mechanics, and end-game systems (like loot drop-rate, tokens, ect). Any one of those can potentially make 2.0 dead in the water. That being said, we've got some good indication now that one element, graphics, are going to be up to par.

Doesn't mean the other stuff can't or won't suck, but it is one large item off the checklist.
