I've been having a lot of fun with the first game on PS3 lately. I picked the firearms expert lady but not sure if that was the right idea to do starting out.
Release date is here! Anybody aside from me (taking the day off from work and) picking the game up today?
Interested if anyone's looking for a coop buddy for this on Xbox, first game was significantly less fun when played solo versus with people
I am especially curious to see what kind of slightly sexist comments I'll be getting from the staff at EB. When I was in last time snagging a game, the Riptide trailer was playing on the TV. Guy behind the counter saw me watching it and said, "Don't watch that, it's sad. You'll cry."
Pretty mad they literally ctrl+C + CTRL+V'ed dead island instead of expanding on the ideas, fixing the horribly implemented ideas, fixing the problems with the game, or actually doing anything to improve on things that were wrong with the game or make the game a much better experience. Not a single problem or bad thing about the game was fixed, not a single good thing was expanded on. WTF were they thinking?
I hope this game completely bombs, doesn't sell for shit, and no one buys it. I don't want dev's thinking they can get away with this shit, essentially selling the same game twice. That's bullshit, when you make another game you FIX SHIT wrong with the old one and make it a BETTER EXPERIENCE and IMPROVE ON YOUR IDEAS.
I enjoyed the first one, but I will never ever ever say it's a good game...it's very badly designed and just had incredibly fun combat. This is NOT what I was expecting from a "sequel".
What the hell? Seriously...?I am especially curious to see what kind of slightly sexist comments I'll be getting from the staff at EB. When I was in last time snagging a game, the Riptide trailer was playing on the TV. Guy behind the counter saw me watching it and said, "Don't watch that, it's sad. You'll cry."
Yup, word for word. When I picked up my copy of ACIII, they asked if I also wanted a copy of the Vita Assassin's Creed game, too, "because it has a GIRL assassin."
I hope this game has a "Quarantine" type neighborhood... With infinitely respawning infected <3
Let us know what you think. All the videos/articles left me unimpressed. But I do love zombie games so there's a fair chance I'll pick it up if it's decent.
don't RE6 again
I stayed up for the midnight PC release via steam and played with my bro. Online matchmaking wasn't working or something, but we got it to work with hamachi. We both enjoyed playing the first dead island together, but playing it solo is kind of boring. It really is more of the same... if you liked the first one, you'll like this one and vice versa. Yeah there are some bugs, nothing too bad from what we've seen so far though, just some clipping stuff. If you got a good friend to play through it with, it's great fun
As far as it being called a sequel though... what someone said above as it was copy and pasted... it does feel like DLC or an expansion pack lol
I enjoyed the first one well enough, although it got very repetitive by the end. I was hoping they would fix some of the issues from the first one, but being pretty much exactly more of the same? I'll wait until it's $20, which probably won't be very long at all.
Dunno how I feel about a game company that has tons of feedback from their first game, and impilments absolutely no changes or suggestions when making the second that runs on the exact same engine as the first. Is it laziness? Callousness? Or are they just confident in their own product?
They're not the only company that does that though (I'm looking at you EA)
First section of the game was quite a tease... And it's always comforting to see the first zombie in the game and then hear the roar of a nearby Thug.
Ran into a terrain glitch when an explosion blew me back and my character haxed through a wall and ended up in a room with no exit... Luckily the autosaved file put me back where I was supposed to be
I find the camera movement in this game bobs up and down too much, had to take a break and take some ginger pills. One good thing they added is the blur when you spin around a decent chunk, helps reduce strain on the eyes
Character movement isn't as nimble as in the first one, had to mess with sensitivity to get it similar to the first game
I still need to play the first one. I got the GOTY for like 8 bucks on black friday but im so burned out on zombies lately being in EVERYTHING that im not sure when ill get around to it.
Reviews hasnt looked to good for this game.
This is really just more of the exact same shit. Given that the first more than overstayed its welcome it's no surprise this isn't going to go down too well. If you liked the first and want more, there's no reason you won't enjoy this. 99% of the people I know got bored of the first game around the halfway mark though so... I don't expect this game to sell too well, even at the ever so slightly reduced price.
I've spent a couple of hours playing the game, wanted to note a few additional small findings.
I'm not finding the game to be a lazy copy of the first one. There are a few new elements, and there are changes they've made that add to the tension of the game. Mob behavior is pretty much the same, I've not noticed anything different about their movement and attack styles(one difference between L4D1 and L4D2 was that in L4D1 the zombies would run straight at you, whereas in L4D2 they would zigzag around and attack you from all sides), BUT the repops are much faster than in the first game, and I find the walkers to be much quieter and they hide some of them really well in the foliage. I've been snuck up on a few times, and I have ears like a bat. I think in the first Dead Island repops would happen about every 20-30 minutes or so, and in this game it feels like somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes. Items also repop about just as quickly, you don't need to zone to get them to respawn. You DO need to pay much closer attention to your surroundings because of the change in repop times.
I went out into the jungle to get some items for a quest, I kept hearing what sounds like a butcher's scream and I'd scramble onto the nearest car/rock/high place and looking around(I hate butchers...) and nothing came at me, but it continues to scream every 30 seconds or so. I think it's stuck inside a building of some kind and I'm going to get a nasty surprise when I find it. Hearing it constantly kept me on edge while I was rummaging around.
Melee weapons are quite a bit more durable this time around, which is nice.
I played Purna in the first game, and I've been playing her again - I think I might switch to a different character in a bit, as the skill trees have a few changes but are pretty similar... what is nice is that you start at lvl 15 and have several skill points to spend right off the bat. They give you the option to import your Dead Island 1 character, which I haven't tried out yet
I'm not saying the game is leaps and bounds better than the first one by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm finding fun so far. Only thing that I find dislikeable about the game so far is the camera movement
When you make a new character, they start off at level 15 (14 skill points) and you can select 3 pre-set skill allocations, or choose custom to put them in yourself. When you load in a previous DI character, you keep their level and that's it. No weapons, blueprints, etc. It's a little tougher when importing for the first bit because of having to use white and green weapons for a little while
