Yea for ham its terribad unless you farm for a week and push 2M+ in supply for top 3 spot. I'm 1/9 after god knows how long and Im resorting to just supply farming for top3.

Good lord, that is comical.
They have it down fairly low!
edit - nvm found a good source.
So what are peoples initial thought on doing a relic? Do we think they will eventually be as powerful and useful as FFXI relics were? The ultimate weapon or is this just something to tie us over in the interim?
I never dedicated myself to doing a relic in FFXI because of the financial strain but tbh this seems somewhat obtainable on a casual basis over a year or so. Trouble im having is trying to decide what relic to actually do? Right now my main is WHM so that is the obvious choice but look at the stats they are good and all but still kind of meh. Some people say do whatever relic you want but lets be honest in FFXI only some relics where worth the effort etc. Does this apply here or is the WHM Relic actually a good piece? Outside that maybe thinking of doing BRD or WAR.... Thoughts?
So I was linked this blog:

Gae Bolg Faction Leve appears to be a shitton of Batraals, lol.
The English name appears to be "Wanted: Ursulien, The Unseen."
BLM's Leve name is, in fact "Wanted: Princess Pudding"
PLD is "Operation: Tailspin"
MNK is "Operation: Lightning"
Couldn't stalk my way into getting the other translations though they aren't wholly necessary.
Spoiler: show
I haven't gotten very far into FFXIV endgame at all really, so I can't accurately judge the difficulty of this relic content, but reading all this makes me question the thinking behind making the fights to get the best weapons in the game harder than anything else. Granted, 2.0 is coming soon, but it seems silly when the item you're trying to obtain is best used for the very content you're running to get it. This isn't limited to FFXIV either, I've always had a problem with this and there are only very few situations where it made sense, if any.
Well, but having easy fight give you the best equipment is also somehow illogical. They're are trophy items also, an icon of achieving something big. Plus, like you said, harder content will come. Plus they can use their weapons to help others in need(and generally make other content easier, and that's the general gist in MMO)
I thought relics in XI were used as bargaining chips to increase value for accounts that were typically immediately sold to an outside buyer?
Since obviously no account is worth anything in XIV, hopefully people will use the relics for their intended purpose, Gokulo.
@RevisIsland: I don't think people have a problem with separating the goods (formerly known as "those with bots/willing to cheat") from the bads (formerly known as "those who did not/were not), but yeah, using the bad content for a bad game (currently) to do so obviously leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.
I agree with your thinking LD, however, (and this from my experience in XI) having a group of folks with relics (in this case multiple aegis, g.horns, apocs, etc.) made getting those items that much easier. That aspect brings into account the type of players your shell has/recruits. This leads to a stronger player pool to do events with, in turn, making those events run even smoother.
Relics definetly are the be all of achievements, IMO (and in XIs case mythics, 99emp's).
Yeah what gokulo said
I'm honestly curious about which relics will be the best this go round. Aegis and g. Horn were so amazingly game changing in XI I'm curious if curtana and the bards will fall into those same category. I also wonder if they'll balance the relics for that same reason. Heaven help the claustrum/mjiloiner(fuckthatword)/ragnaroks(pre-abyssea) folks in XIV, who got a weapon only to have it be worse than a level 51 staff ><.
Assuming this the start of the Legacy weapons that was mentioned back when 2.0 was first announced, this is just the first step to these weapons. Legacy weapons are supposed to be upgradable as the game's life continues which will result in weapon model changes, name changes and stat/ability increases iirc.
I have a suspicion that they are separate items...
Didn't they mention that "legacy" items were going to be iconic Final Fantasy franchise throwbacks that you had to apply for (implying that you might only be able to have one)?
I wonder if they put any hidden effects on these things. They've been pretty forthcoming with trying to list all the effects on weapons/gear, going so far as to label the effects of the Hermes Shoes, Onion Helm, and Asuran Armguards. I guess since nobody has these weapons yet, we don't even know if the dat mined stats are fully correct.
I started thinking about this the other day. On an assumption (which may be false) that you don't need to do the Hamlet seals and promissory note a 2nd time to re-open the forge, a group of 8 folks who have gotten their first relic weapon will have a somewhat easy time getting a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.
So you need a double meld class weapon (gil and or farming time, but not extremely difficult), an NM drop... 3 runs each of AV/CC (potentially completable in one night if your group could do it without relics in the first place). I don't know the time involved in getting the darkhold/caravan/behest items. There's also the faction leve, Ifrit and Garuda -- but again, if you have a group that finished it *without* any relics, I'm not expecting anything to be a major roadblock *with* relic weapons.
I agree Jamison, but I fear hamlet spam will be a requirement for additional relics. Hi there, we're square enix, lubrication you say ? HA!
It seems most people here are confused as to the naming of these systems in comparison to XI's system. This is how I've viewed them thus far:
Relic XIV Weapons are akin to Mythics in XI. I do not see the XIV Relics anywhere near the time/effort involved in XI's relic system.
The main issue that they are trying to resolve from XI's original Relic/Mythic system in XIV is the fact that they never went up in value, and were subject to arguable amount of depreciation. They are calling this system Legacy. They want those weapons to upgrade when the game "upgrades".
I believe that they could just as easily make the XIV Relic weapons also upgradeable in a similar fashion to XI's AF Armor upgrades, this would fit their model of Legacy onto XIV Relics. I believe the Legacy items should be comparable to the Relic, although a bit more powerful. Although I believe their main theme for this system is fan service.
TLDR;
XIV Relic ≠ XI Relic (Based on time/effort involved)
XIV Relic ≧ XI Mythic
XIV Legacy = XI Relic+Mythic +Upgradable (Can't say much; in terms of difficulty; about Legacy beside the factual concept behind them. Therefore it is much more difficult to compare to anything we've seen before.)
While there may be a fine line between "proportionately more difficult to obtain than previous BiS" and "the most difficult content in the game", I still think it's there. A quest can give a person obtaining a relic a great sense of accomplishment without making the content he would be using it in seem trivial by comparison. It can be difficult in a different way. Also, you have to consider that for, say, Garuda you're not working towards 1 item. The idea is you and x other people are working towards a cache of items rather than just the 1 for you. That's a balancing point. It doesn't have to be completely neutered because of this, but the gain from a single event has to be taken into account.
Doesnt look that hard, I bet all it takes is /laughing at each nail (or /kneel during HF!) and zooming in on the chat log!
