They should just change them to Diablo-esque Desecrator/Poison areas and just drain your HP at a fast rate. It would still suck, but at least it might not kill you. Maybe that would end up making it too easy though... hard to say.
I guess I'm lucky, because unless I'm being stupid and trying to stream netflix and/or letting Steam idle for updates, my Ifrit's usually look like that.
Well I'm not saying that Ifrit is impossible here in Europe, he's really easy. Just saying that we don't really have as much time to gtfo as everyone else and the latency issue is actually worse.
13min 24sec speedrun in AV.
That video royally (Ifrit) pisses me off. They'd better have a pretty shit hot plan for server architecture in v2 because I'm pretty sure they do 99% of their testing in JP and it runs like a dog here in UK most of the time. On the plus side, when EU players do what JP do - EU player is 'better' by default due to handicap![]()
if u know ur grp doesnt have wat it takes to beat ifrit extreme YET, u can always farm more than 3 ore and salts so once a proper strat is out, and u can beat ifrit regularly, you can instantly finish 7 relics :D
so in the end, only ifrit extreme is wat u need to grind out for relics (and garuda)
i like how SE mention this takes time and dedication but in reality u can finish a relic in 14 in 1 month of hard work, actually hamlet PREQUEST look longer than the actual relic quest (i was 9/9 seals for a while, and helping static get seals took like 3 weeks.....we finished seals yest and now our grp already 8 miser's mythril)
im not saying its easy to beat ifrit for now, cos im still at CC stage but the hamlet stage does take alot more time.... and im sure once a proper ifrit strat is out and people used to beat ifrit extreme, everyone and their mum will have a relic
best part is on my server many people who doesnt even have a relic in 11(pre 99) are saying 14 relic is harder to obtain when they are at unfinished relics in like 1 week /jackiechan
all in all, this "relic" quest in 14 sounds like a AF weapon +1 quest
i'm say more in tone with Emp's because you have to do some work but not really a lot, magic melds seems to be the 2nd most annoying part about this
Could just be, you know, weapons that are good now but replaced later with additional content. Like other successful MMO's.
Not saying it's right or wrong, but I know a lot of people who are putting the time in now on the presumption the weapons will be upgradable (or turned into an even better AF weapon, same thing) down the road. Gonna see some mighty upset people if they obsolete these 100%.
I don't see why, Legendaries in WoW take 1 month at a fairly hardcore pace, 2-4 mos at a more casual pace. Pretty much the same amount of work, but less bullshit since Blizzard doesn't make you get a random lucky double meld on expensive items or place highly in a boring event.
Edit: Also, I would hope people don't want that, because some of them are terrible for what you're putting into them.
Honest question for discussion: if taking 3 months (casual) to get a Legendary, how long should one expect to use that before it becomes obsolete?
In 1.0, SE has shown a tendency to make items obsolete every 2 months or so. Hopefully either 2.0 has a much longer life cycle, or there are plans for upgrading these weapons to keep them current.
Looking at weapons only, you have Ifrit -> Moogle -> GC/Garuda
You can still use any of those and do well, and from a WAR perspective, Moogle/GC/Garuda are pretty equal in terms of "if I had one and a choice to get any other, I'd choose a weapon for a different class".
It seems like SE screwed any casual attempt at getting one anyway with the Hamlet/Ifrit Extreme aspect.
What I'd like to not see happen is this weapon set be the best, upgradeable over time, etc, because when they raise the level cap it will be much easier to do certain things. At some point in the games life, obtaining a "relic" will be very easy to do up to a certain point (if they were upgradeable). I'd rather see this not happen to the point that having one is relevant because it forces you to do what is (likely) dead content at the time. Instead, release new fights, new requirements, and new weapons, so that if in the future we're busy fighting Odin and Darth Vader and raiding the Princess' Pantie Drawer those events are the focus. Not, "now relics are easier to get started/complete stage 1-x" and then I have to go back and do Hamlet, gather people for Ifrit Extreme, etc - that's a FFXI SE tactic and it's lame.
In the life cycle of 1.0 LNC weapons, we've had for "endgame": some basic crafted weapon (+1/2/3), then Champion's Lance (crafted, but NM drop, also +1/2/3), then Lominsan Lance, Canopus Guisarme & Hart Guisarme, then they added I think 2 crafted weapons, the three primal weapons you listed, then the Lieutenant's Spear. Many of these had their time as best-in-slot, while some were ment as easier to obtain alternatives.
I understand this won't be typical of 2.0, but it's clear why people are scared at how quickly SE has made equipment obsolete. And it's not as if Ifrit weapons are a common drop now to make up for there being better weapons out there. For the time invested, I'd like some assurance that 6 months down the road I won't converting this thing to materia because that's all it's good for anymore.
