Do you want a PS style or XB style pad? If the latter check out the Razer Onza/Sabertooth. I have an original Onza TE and it feels really great. For PS style Logitech still makes some models but I have no personal experience with them.

There are probably a lot of good options out there, but I've always recommended an xbox 360 controller. (I think they brand it "for windows"). It pretty much plugs right in and works, button prompts in-game are the actual face buttons of the controller, and it's quite solid. You'd also be fine with a logitech controller if you want something a little cheaper.

PS style or xbox style doesnt matter. Something fairly cheap and works out the gate would be best. Im sure Ill find something at walmart real quick but was mainly just wondering if that would work or needed a special type of gamepad or software.

    PS2 controller + adapter.

(what I've always used, always worked fine)

Echoing the above. For ease of use just grab a wired Xbox controller. It's what I used the last couple beta weekends. You 'could' use a Logitech one, and they work well for a little while. It's just a bit on the cheap side construction wise and you can expect to replace it regularly. If you prefer the playstation type controller, you'd be better off using a dualshock 3 and getting the appropriate drivers which were linked to earlier.

Curious, if you were to use a controller, how would you switch targets while in battle? Do you have to completely disengage?

It'll also be possible to put a macro on the crossbar that uses a subtarget command, I believe, for things that can frequently be used on alternate targets but without changing your primary target.

I don't generally plug Razer because their mice have begun to disappoint me over the years (construction not quality of use) but you can use this to determine which of the two controllers they make you'd prefer (link). There's also a youtube video here that compares their two models to the XBOX standard controller as well and is very informative.

As for Logitechs, they basically make two models. Their cheap model is $25 pretty much anywhere, the F310. It is probably a piece of crap compared to a proper Sony controller based on price alone. The other is their wireless F710 which appears to be better constructed. The advantage to these pads is they handle both directinput and xinput, which is important for emulators and older games. You cannot get this functionality with an oldschool PS2-to-USB adapter. In fact modern games won't even recognize that anymore. Honestly though I'd just go in for a bluetooth adapter for PC and hooked up a PS3 pad if you own one and it would save you cash. Logitech makes good keyboard and mice but I'm not sure they have any prowess in this area. I use to go through RumblePad2s like crazy back in the day (a much older model of these which touted wireless vibration function and would break itself and suck down AA batteries faster than women sift through boxes at a shoe sale).

I'd start with the Razer pads if you're looking to make an investment. They're lightweight, functional out of the box, and feel better than your typical xbox pad, that's where to start. I only play on PC and I've tried so many peripherals to find "the right one" and I definitely recommend them.

Yea, the cheap basic logitech F310 works very well & is plug & play. It just has a short lifespan compared to a PS3 or Xbox one. If your ok with that it will do you fine. Never used the razer, so can't comment.

Thanks so much for the responses. The F310 sounds like a good choice for me.

This is probably a stupid question on my part, but I never pre-order games.

I pre-ordered ARR for my GF, it charged my card the $29.99, was pending for nearly a week, and then it disappeared and I got the money back in my account. Is this normal? What is the meaning of this nonsense?

Most places don't charge for preorders til the items ship, sounds like they juat checked to makw sure your card was good and had available funds.

Well there is no shipping since it's digital, but now it kind of sucks because I don't know when they are going to charge. Release date? Early Access Date? Either way I'm a poor fucker and need to be ready for it lol.

Digital Pre-orders will charge on release date. Physical Pre-orders will charge when they are shipped. Like ArchDizzle said, some companies will charge your account to see if it is real or not and then refund it. This occurs mostly with retailers you are using for the first time. The SE store does this the first time you use it and appears to not do it on subsequent charges (unless the charges are for over 100$). You have to remember that the entire reason that the Crysta crap exists is that SE had major issues with XI and stolen and fraudulent credit cards during XI's first several years.

Any new info on crafting? I'm trying to decide on one, specifically wondering what crafts are best suited for what jobs. Also, what crafts are easier to just farm mobs for materials as opposed to gathering or mining.

You're pretty safe to trust your common sense when it comes to what crafting is useful for what, and what it relies on. LTW is the craft that relies on DoL classes the least.

I've got a question about Leve allowances.

We get granted three level allowances every 12 hours iirc. If i dont purchase any new leve and i've 3 allowances, after 12 hours will i've 6, or will i still have 3 because i didnt use them.

Originally in "ye olde" 1.0 you were limited to a set number of leves per 36(?) hours and if you didn't do them in that time frame they were essentially "wasted" when the next period began, eventually they changed it to a cumulative ticket system so you weren't forced to log in at your inconvenience just so you wouldn't lose out.

They took a hint from the way Abyssea stones work more or less.
