1.0 standard accounts won't accept ARR CE PC codes. Yes, it's retarded.
Q:What if I bought the old version of FFXIV, and I already have characters on my account, but I'm looking to get the in game pre-order and collector's edition items. If I pre-order the collector's edition, then register the pre-order and collector's edition codes to my existing account, will I be able to get all the in game items?
A:You will receive the pre-order items, but the registration code for the Windows collector's edition cannot be used with a pre-existing Windows service account. To receive the in game items for the collector's edition, please use the digital upgrade.
    Your options are:
    -Digital CE upgrade for PC
    -PS3 CE

EDIT: Too slow, I was looking for the quote.

However, the PS3 version can be registered to an existing Windows account, which would allow you to receive the collector's edition items.
wow thanks for the info, thats kinda lame :/ so i have to buy the CE box + digital upgrade lol
or would it be possible to delete the 1.0 version in my square enix account and add a total new FF14 account (with the ingame items) with the CE box code? I want to make a new char anyways

Can get the PS3 CE or make a new service account under your existing SE id and apply the Windows CE to it, however you won't have access to anything from your 1.0 account if you do the latter.

How can I find out if I have Legacy status? cause I was pretty sure I didn't but when I logged in yesterday i'm sure it said Legacy on the char creation screen. Hmm.

Square Enix Account Management page, Confirm Service Account Status etc

The exact way of finding would be:
Select Service -> Final Fantasy XIV

Anyone try a mouse with hot buttons? Been playing beta with a 360 controller and I'm pretty mixed after years of XI with mouse and keyboard. It has its convienances, but I hate swapping to type.

I feel like the controller is best for mindless dribble, farming, etc, but otherwise, I think I'd prefer mouse and keyboard.

Tried mouse/keyboard, was vastly inferior to controller even though I'm used to mouse/keyboard and always play PC games on a mouse and keyboard.

I swore by the controller in XI but Mouse+Keyboard is way superior with how XIV is setup.

Setup M/KB like this (ALT and SHIFT trigger other rows).
    Spoiler: show

Rarely used, situational type abilities and convenience go on the right bar.

Target bar/threat bar looks like this:
    Spoiler: show

If you're a healer, you can basically flip the entire UI over itself or just do as follows:

Move battle chat log to the top left, place limit break gauge underneath (or wherever).

Split party list halfway underneath the chat log.

Activate a vertical hotbar and place it directly next to the party list

Move the target bar and target focus bar to be centered similar to where I have mine.

Move the threat list to the left hand side (instead of the right) underneath the target bar.

Move your progress bar to the bottom of your hotbar, on the right side (just above HP/MP or other hotbars)

This should make everything you would click (people, some abilities) in one spot on the left side. The fastest way to target enemies and heal allies, and use certain items (echo drops) are all within pixels of each other and your ability hotbars are easier to manage with one hand.

Good god, I could never play like that. So much shit in the middle region of the screen.

and having to actually click things? Euuughhhh.

Just use whatever you're used to, or find works best for you. The past debates on gamepad vs mouse/kb vs kb-only are stupid and everyone is most proficient at whatever they're most proficient at. Saying something is "the best" is stupid if the person you're talking to sucks as using "the best" option.

lol, fastest targeting period is through clicking party/threat list so idk, if you're going to be a boss and click you might as well click some other things too and use both of those hands for something other than camera movements.

F-keys will always be faster than your mouse for targetting your party members, but I will grant you that clicking the threat list is faster than anything else. Oh geez, I just said this debate is stupid, and here I am having it anyway.

If F-Keys are faster, maybe you aren't CS CPL MLG enough. Regardless, if you want to play m/kb swapping 6-0 for QERFG and having some form of unused/seldom used shit is a must. If you want to be slower and make it further from the center then cool, if you want to sacrifice some middle screen for some speed/accuracy then that's cool too.

I have no idea what any of those abbreviations mean, so sure whatever you say. I'm well aware I'm no pro gamer. My main point was that "best" is only "best" if you know how to properly utilize it, so suggestions for how people should set their UI/controls up are generally pointless.

General UI advice based on the length of the average human finger, minimum travel distance for mouse, rule-of-thirds design, and aesthetic clarity is completely valid; there are some practices that are objectively better than others, and some that are genuinely subjective. My shit's configured differently from Churchill's but one change I want to make after seeing those screenshots is sliding the menu, gil, and inventory down like he did, to be flat across the bottom of the screen.

I kinda' wish they had an option to make the unused hotbar slots go 100% transparent (turning back on when you drag an ability), I would be more inclined to throw the HotBar7 off to the left, against the party list, with the target list to the right of it.

Also, I would like to turn off the gil and inventory elements.

The options are there already in the config menu, but they are grayed out. I'm assuming that it means itll be ready for launch

I use F-keys and Naga 12 button mouse on WHM. My left hand stays on the F-keys during fights and my right thumb is near my various cure buttons on the mouse. If I had to hit an F-key and then hit my cure button on my keyboard, I could see how clicking would be faster, but with the Naga I think my method is optimal.
