I swore I remember some kind of dev post/discussion about being able to turn it in game so only first names are displayed (possibly upon release)?

It's one of those greyed out Config features so yeah it'll be there eventually-probably.

Or is that going to be for communication purposes as well? (Meaning you'd have to only type the first name and not both upon release). Or is it always going to be the two?

I don't think there's been an official word on it but I find it highly unlikely it'd work for for communication purposes. Unless they've changed their naming stance since 1.0 when you could have two characters with the same Forename on a server (as long as the Surnames differed obviously).

Go to na,finalfantasyxiv,com and click on register for beta banner near the top (replace commas in url with periods obviously).
But your best bet I would think is to try and snag a beta key, as this upcoming test will likely close out Phase 3 of the beta, with the open beta Phase 4 coming up a few weeks later.

Hey guys. I recently placed a pre-order so that I could obtain the ingame bonus items. I was wondering when I can expect that pre-order bonus code. I don't normally order games or buy them at all to be honest, so I'm not familiar with the process. Has anyone received their code yet?

Depends on where you placed your order. Most places give it to you immediately.

Each vendor is different, so it's hard for me to say exactly what to do without knowing your country/vendor.
Most of the vendors I've seen in the US will give the promotion code immediately (Amazon, Gamespot, our store, etc.). If you've pre-ordered and not received anything, you might want to check with them...

No it's not. PS3 will get a digital version of the game for early access and once it expires will be required to insert the disc and register the physical copy to continue playing.

Halatali is simply talk to Lambert in the side room of the Waking Sands in Vesper Bay, you'll find him during the story quests if you look around.

Everything else is just talk to the guard at the entrance of the dungeon when you hit the required level.

A: You will receive the pre-order items, but the registration code for the Windows collector's edition cannot be used with a pre-existing Windows service account. To receive the in game items for the collector's edition, please use the digital upgrade.

However, the PS3 version can be registered to an existing Windows account, which would allow you to receive the collector's edition items.

If I have a 1.0 CE, want to use that character in ARR, and want all the bonus items found in ARR CE, I have to buy both the CE AND Digital Upgrade?
