Hey this has probably been asked a load of times. I bought and made a ffxiv account when the game originally came out would I need to buy a new copy? I only played for a mth and a bit.

No.
Awesome figured as much thanks. When does ARR officially launch?
Look up.
I had absolutely no problem targeting and breaking the tail this weekend. It is only targetable after a certain HP% when the "Skin falls off his tail" prompt shows up. I don't know why non-dodging mechanics are isolated to WoW, as far as I knew from FFXI up to ToAU there was no need to dodge anything except maybe some well known AoEs.
The second you use an ability on someone who has hate, you have hate. I don't know what you are proposing but if someone in your party has hate I don't think you are sitting around scratching your ass trying to swap gear. If you swap weapons you will have to wait on GCD for about 60s.
Archer(Job: BRD) and Thaumaturge(Job: BLM) are considered DD classes. When you queue up for a duty (event, dungeon) on the Duty Finder, it'll consider you as such and look for another DD, a tank and a healer to complete your Light Party(4 members.) So as a THM or ARC you'll have to compete against Pugilists(Job: MNK) and Lancers(Job: DRG) as well as other THMs and ARCs.
Just a side note, ARC/BRD's Limit Break is similar to the healer's one.
Forgot to look b4 beta went down but for the Grand Company Hunting Log do you have to flag anything or as soon as you join one its ready to go? Is it listed under the same Hunting log or is it its own deal?
Oh, I see. I didn't notice that. It didn't make it any harder for us, but if they release hard mode dungeons this might be something to remember. Thanks for the tip. And I was using WoW generically, but even still, most MMOs didn't have a dodge mechanic until recently so it's still something new for people to learn.
To see your Grand Company hunting log. Go into hunting log. Then at the top left, where you see the class icons select the icon for your Grand Company.
so far i like the game, but does anyone know if there are any plans for NM / HNM - or farming pop items for special bosses ( optical hats / sky farming etc )
that is really all this game is missing, and i know it isn't released yet but that kind of stuff is make it or break it for me
I think the world is moving away from contents that require the farming of pop items.
NM and HNM you get through FATE.
Popped NMs sounds like it would make a nice addition. Casually spending some time to farm pop items, and then gathering a group of friends to help you kill it whenever you want. There's no time constraints, in fact you have even more control over the time than you would with FATE events.
It's not like it's old school XI NMs/HNMs where you aren't allowed to have a life, after all.
Attunements as you say, seem to be back and "better than ever". Once again, dungeons are part of the system of "unlocks" that YoshiP has designed so we are being given loads of breadcrumbs and time and opportunity to get used to each idea as we go along. Unlocking Sastasha > Tam-Tara > Copperbell > Retainers > Materia > Embers > Grand Companies > Chocobo > Chocobo Companion > etc > etc. Seemed like Attunements to me, just ones done without any real deep troublesome questline. I can only assume that these will continue ala the ones we had in XI where people had to be to the same point or past a mission/quest in order to participate.
I would love to see Poppable NMs return. I had always thought that these types of content was something that games like WoW, Tera and GW2 could use creatively. I would love regular lottery spawns and stuff as well, but Poppable NMs would be a good start.
So far due to the flood of low levels, the FATEs have been absolutely boring. I did manage to get into some mid-level FATEs with about 6 people and it was great. I hope that's what the equilibrium will end up being (not 30+ I mean). The boss FATEs are far more fun.
Thinking about adding a suggestion to SE forums but would like some feedback before I make an ass of myself - what do people think about meeting certain conditions in FATEs to pop a higher quality FATE later/soon after? I still think FATEs have a lot of polishing to go through with a lot of potential. It would be nice if FATEs gave random drops for individuals that exceeded certain marks that they could end up using as - let's say - pop items for gear (and I mean something beyond the company seals since those are direct exchange - we need more fighting!).
