In 1.0 the DoH required to repair the item could affix materia to it if they were of the same level or higher as the item.

A level 48 weapon that required BSM for repairs could have materia affixed to it by a lvl 48+ BSM.

Repairs required you to be within 10 levels of an item (a level 38 BSM could repair a level 48 weapon, but would need to be at least level 48 to affix materia).

I don't know if this has changed in 2.0, I didn't look into materia at all.

If true, that's going to a very high barrier for entry, on new servers, to get materia infused gear to progress in end game content. I can't imagine the content being balanced without it, as Legacy servers will just steamroll it, which means new servers will likely still be working on trying to enter that content while new content is being released. Ya, I know some people will say 'Legacy' but it's a pretty tough road for new servers to go down.

I saw a interview with YoshiP talking about FF14 for Xbox360/Xboxdone and MS doesnt allow it because they dont want crossplatform play etc, but how is that possible, FFXI was crossplatform too, so why is it not possible with FF14? did MS change something with xbl?
I dont really care about Xbox anymore, but would be interessting to know why crossplatform was possible with FFXI back then but not with FF14

Fairly sure that same article mentioned how XI was a very special case, and SE had to fight for it. MS most likely used it as a bargain to get XIII released on 360.

That's a hopelessly asinine position. Before Xbox, no one was talking about online play, Xbox live was the first to the marketplace with genuine long-term multiplayer support for consoles. PC had been doing it for games, but then it was a game by game and publisher by publisher basis. Xbox live created a standard for games, and standardized what console gamers expected from multiplayer gaming.

Plus, the 360 kicked the PS3's ass so hard is the reason that the PS4 is so good. Competition in the marketplace is good, and the current version of the PS4 is the result of the free market - competition improves products and results in higher quality and lower prices to consumers. You may object to their policies, but without their "bad" policies, Playstation could do whatever they want and have a captive audience. We don't just need Xbox in the market making consoles, we also need Google to make a box.

Yeah you didn't need gold to play XI on Xbox.

I return with more uneducated questions. Has there been any talk of whether or not people will get access to jobs or to arcanist in phase 4? (I know you had to have it originally in legacy to access it in phase 3).

They're accessible if you have a relic, otherwise idk. I would hope the quests would be available if its essentially early access.

Not sure if this is still relevant but according to the phase 3 patch notes thread.

Jobs have been added for Version 1.0 characters only.
In phase 3, jobs can only be used by preexisting characters from Version 1.0 that have already acquired jobs. An additional slot to equip a soul crystal can be found in the Character menu. Equipping a soul crystal will allow players to switch to a job from the associated class, gaining access to job-specific equipment and actions.
　*Job quests will be added in phase 4.
