How does the PS3 version compare to PC? I would choose the PC version but right now I'm stuck with a old one that can't play it. I know that the console won't have AA or certain graphical tweeks but how noticeable is it? I have a 32" 1080p tv so I would think it would still look decent.
I played the PS3 beta on a 37" 1080p tv. The game looked gorgeous and the frame rate was alright. My issues were the huge as fuck UI which will be scalable in phase 4 thank god. During the first beta test if there are a TON of people in a area a NPC wouldn't show up but I didn't encounter that for the rest of the test. In FATEs where there are 30+ people and 30+ goblins all spamming bomb toss the game gets extremely choppy, for the most part the combat performance was solid and very stable. Yes the load times inbetween zones are like 4-8 seconds, its a little awkward playing with PC friends because of that but it's no game breaker, you can still chat while loading zones.

Ehh, just save up for a PS4 at this point, the release isn't that far and you can also replace the PS4's HDD.

You cannot use duty finder to play as a role that your class/job is not if you do not have a full party. If you have a premade full party you can enter any scenario with whatever setup. All duty finder stuff like dungeons, guildhest, and boss fights require the optimal balance setup if your party isn't full. Keep in mind Tank/healer jobs cannot compete with DPS jobs in terms of damage or pugilist and dragoon cannot tank mid/high level content.

Not to FFXI this up of course but I always found it interesting (ok, your performance would be sub-par but it's something at least!) to be able to play SAM as a DD or tank, for example, of a WHM as a healer or DD (if you got all the gear for it) etc
I think Mioko hit it pretty well, but the answer for right now is "not yet". When second classes come around, you're going to see more of that stuff happening, like Summoner vs. Scholar. Not yet, though.

I almost want to make a case for playing Warrior slightly different from Mrd through the lack of vengance (and the damage reduction/thread increase it provides) but I'm fairly sure that the damage numbers will still wind up being close between Warrior and Mrd (if not higher for Warrior in the long run) with the added benefit of large amounts of life leech, extra crit and enmity through certain moves. This is something that end-game 1.0 vets like Churchill can probably speak more accurately about than I, even without the new changes to the systems.

I'll say this, though: if Dark Knight winds up spinning off of Gladiator, yes, its going to fucking play differently than Paladin, but don't let me catch you, at that time, trying to turn Dark Knight into a Paladin-esque tank, or we're right back to Buttersheep square one.

Aren't the base stats of main-hand weapons the biggest factor of melee attacks? Aren't swords generally poop in that regard, kinda' hosing GLA/PLD's damage from the get-go?

Glancing at the top-tier swords vs top-tier other melee weapons, the difference seems to be about 10STR, which is generally made up on the Shield, so I don't really see much difference stat-wise.

All of the +1 relics seem to have the same 46 base damage, with the next tier down being 41.

I don't know why people keep mentioning DRK as a spinoff from GLD though. Wouldn't MRD make more sense ? (2H weapon, Bloodbath, Berserk, Mercy Stroke, Storm's Path, etc).

No one really knows what to think about Dark Knight. Both Marauder and Gladiator have their own reasons they could work as a base class, but next to no one thinks Dark Knight should be any sort of tank. and both of those classes' skill sets are littered with defensive and hate-generating abilities.

    MRD because it's a heavy-hitter melee.
    GLA because... Cecil.

Historically in Final Fantasy, PLD and DRK where opposite ends of the same spectrum. See: Cecil in FF4.

What you said makes more sense, and I'd bet thats what will happen.

with the way classes are established now I'm not too sure either of those would be suitable because of the weapon type they use. I was under the impression that the iconic DRK used a Great Sword. So, if SE were to add DRK as a job that branched off of those two classes it might be a little odd. Not to mention the problems with both of those base classes' abilities clashing with the style of DRK like you said.

After learning of the SCH details, I think any speculation about second jobs is pointless. The first job is an evolution of the class, while the second one uses a lot of new rules. Using the existing rules to speculate doesn't work when the second jobs are allowed to break them.

-The weapons (or armor) that the current classes can equip are irrelevant: they're willing to make job-specific weapons/armor (unusable by the base class) to get around whatever limitations they run into. Look at all of the SCH-only books that ACN cannot use. Look at all the gear that SCH shares with WHM/CNJ (but not with ACN). In the case of GLA->DRK, they could just add DRK-only JSE like Gswords (or Scythes, or whatever they go with) and then put DRK on DD gear.

-Current skillsets don't really matter that much either: SCH functions mainly via job skills, not class skills. Not all of the ACN skills help SCH with its main role - a lot of them are just "bonuses" (like DOTs). To use DRK as an example again: if DRK had a bunch of defensive skills because of GLA or MRD, it would not be "weird" in the eyes of the system. It would not be any different than SCH.

-Lastly... Yoshida mentioned "stances" that could alter the way class skills work, which makes speculation based on skills even more pointless. The possibilities here are endless: they could add a stance to LNC that changed all the thrusts into slashes if they wanted, or a stance that turned all of GLA's defensive buffs into offensive ones.

Current skillsets matter a lot and still are your identity... despite being on a job, you're still 90% the base class. You get 5 additional skills and even less skills borrowed from other classes overall.

I think you're assuming that equipping a job rock changes how you play more than it actually does. For every existing job, you only gain a few additional utility skills to suppliment the class' already existing set.

    WAR gets the Defiance/Wrath mechanic.
    DRG gets some Jumps.
MNK gets more of the same.
PLD gets some more tanking options.
WHM gets some more support options.
BLM gets more of the same.
BRD gets a set of songs. (this is the only one that has any effect on how you play the class at all, and even it isn't all that major)

Scholar/Summoner are still 90% Arcanist. Your action bar is still going to be filled with Ruin/Bio/Miasma/etc. and not much else.

You're misunderstanding what I meant by that, I was only talking about secondary jobs. The bolded part is true... but only for the first 8 jobs.

Can you really say that the SCH skills supplement ACN? Look at the SCH skills (Fairies included) and tell me what skills you're going to need to use in order to the perform the job's role. How many of them are actually Arcanist's? As far as your playstyle is concerned, going from ACN to SMN simply gives you skills that make you better at what you're already doing. Going from ACN to SCH is an entirely different matter.

If secondary jobs offer alternate roles for the current classes (and I don't see why they wouldn't, although it might be wrong to assume this) then I feel like all the points I made stand: they will do whatever they need to make it work, current rules for the first jobs be damned.

    EDIT:
In case I'm still not making myself clear:
Following the model set by SCH, they could tackle a healing Job onto LNC, MRD, PGL, or really any class - it doesn't matter that these classes have no native healing skills and it doesn't matter that the Job would have a lot of "useless" offensive/defensive skills. This is what I meant by "current skillsets don't matter that much" (as far as the secondary jobs are concerned).

Is there any information about how the 24 man dungeons will work in terms of things like reset timers?

I think the first time DRK used a great sword instead of a sword/shield was either in X-2 or XI. In 2/3/4, it was all sword/shield combo.

To repeat what has been said a million times already: SE can give GLA great swords, or they can give only DRK great swords, under the current system. They can do whatever the fuck they want, under the current system.

GLA can't use great sword now? Every class only uses one weapon type now? We're doomed!

Not thread worthy so ill post it here:

Barely played 1.0, and I had a couple questions:

    - Do people use classes for end game activities at all ? If so which one, and do we have at this point reasons to think it'd be different in 2.0 ?
    - How gimped is Bard DPS ? any significant if decently played/equiped or not even ?

Can't speak for BRD but some people uses classes in Party uses, exemple in 1.0 I saw alot of JP going THM to Garuda using Scared Prism and Sanguine Right to help reduce Aerial Blast DMG.

I didn't actually check all the skills for 2.0 so couldn't say but guess time will tell

I just grabbed the ps3 standard copy for early release (non-legacy pesant) and using the digital upgrade to CE for some of the goodies. Can I also buy the security token seperate?
