Also, in case you're unaware, here's how to obtain your Goobue mount.
For a better frame of reference, that's just south of Bloodshore. The goobbue horn, used to summon the goobbue mount, can be obtained by players level 30 or above. To do so, simply speak with the "wandering minstrel" NPC, who stands vigil in eastern La Noscea (36,25).
Awesome, thanks guys.
Possible returning player here
Last time I played (about a year ago) Leveling was super boring, you did the same 2 company leves from 30 to 50 over and over and over while waiting for a PT invite with your flag up. which never came. The seek party system was utterly useless, nobody used it so you had to actively look for a party, usually by shouting in Ul'dah and you had to be very lucky for the PT to take off
Hows the Leveling/PTing now? It's still the same 2 boring leves till cap, or is it possible to Party to cap like it was XI?
I'll be most likely making a new character since it's on a different server then the people I play with thanks to the merger, is people actively doing content (ifrit/instances/quests or anything that cannot be soloed) or do you have to rely on your LS or you're SoL?
Leveling is a snap now, and the party search feature is starting to be used by party leaders with some common sense ( I used it a ton level GLD, as I didn't get any sort of Pwr LvL on that job). Alot of shouts in Ul'dah still but if you put your flag up for a desirable job (WHM,PLD/WAR,BRD) you'll probably get a /tell in a decent enough ammount of time (play time dependant)
However, fastest leveling is by taking turns essentially power leveling your party with a level 50 job that can clear large ammounts of mobs with AoE abilites (BLM,WAR,DRG,etc.) usually parties will swap off PL duties every 20-30 mins, and in about 2-3 hours you can gain upwards of 5-10, sometimes 20 levels depending on how well the players understand their level 50 jobs.
I find it to be not that boring at all, and i've been just spamming my classes to 50 then going back and unlocking jobs much easier.
If you made a new character on a server that you had a few friends on, that were willing to help you, they could get you 2-3 classes with jobs fully unlocked in probably a week (probably alot quicker if that's all you did, but that's crazy talk)
If I go with a basic BRD set, what should I be looking for?
Crab Bow (DEX meld, PIE meld, Critattack meld?)
AF Hat
AF Body
AF Hands
AF Legs
AF Feet
Flame Sergeant's Sash
Electrum Gorget
Explorer's Earrings
DEX/PIE Wristband?
DEX/PIE/Electrum Ring?
If you mean what should you upgrade first, I would say the largest upgrades you can do right away are 2-meld PIE body, 2/3-meld DEX hands. Build gear macro swaps for minuet and ballad. From there, you can see what your accessory loadout should be. As I'm not that familiar with base stats for BRD I couldn't tell you that you need to go for this or that. My personal set has 2 PIE rings and a DEX bracelet. Best bow outside of relic is Flame Lieutenant's, but Ifrit's Bow is next in line. Some claim Garuda's Spine is good for weaving light shots but I've never seen better numbers with it than the aforementioned bows.
I was more looking at what single meld I should get on the weapon since it's cheap to do just that, and what basic stats would look like once geared (not 50 yet) so I could plan ahead of time. Basically using BRD for more versatility atm to get better weapons/such.
How do I cast a spell without having to confirm it? Is there a setting in the options somewhere I'm not seeing?
Yes, in Config > Target Settings > Action Subtargets (set OFF)
That will fire action bar stuff onto whatever's already targeted.
The text command is /subtarget <on/off>
Anyone have any experience of using the dat parser (The JP one)?
Trying to put together an item database. I can find lots of useful things like item stats, type, description, level requirements etc. but I can't seem to find the references for which classes/jobs the item is equippable by. Unfortunately the CSVs don't have a header row.
You'll want 330ish pie and 300 or so DEX. You can get a single PIE meld on body, I used raptorskin harness, and DEX meld on some fingerless raptorskin or felt bracers, depending on how close you are. If you have the GC points to spare, the non-lieutenant bow is pretty boss too, but put DEX on what you have and PIE wrist/rings.
Well I had that backwards, lol
I'm considering reactivating my accounts after a 2year break. Wanted to know what were the big changes. I playe from release until mid januray 2011, and left right when yashida came in charge. Do these still exist?
-Lag: lag when selecting abilities, lage in menu (equipement change etc), lag when reselling to NPC.
-Is the keyboard fully configurable yet? At start i had to remap the keyboard with AutoHotKeys to change the direcdionnal arrows to 4/5/6/8 (basically wanted to mimic the standard WSAD+arrow from ff11).
-full screen mode?
-guildleves still have terribad exp reward?
-is crafting still a stupid enter key spam game for hours and hours?
-the two mages classes were the same @ lauch, with different spell names. variety now?
-anima still here?
-repair still here?
-market wardof fail?
- high level mobs near guildleve camps still pissing off people (i remember the goddamn scorpions mobs..)?
- does gear matter now? I remember gearing towards + HP on mages due to stats doing nothing and MP infinte.
- still there, but a lot better
- yes afaik
- if you're asking for tabbing is still crashes the game
- guildleves have been revamped and are pretty good source of exp now
- crafting had a big revamp, I'd say it's less spammy, you need to make more choices to get better quality as quality increases exp
- classes had a big revamp too, conjurer is a healer now with some DD spells, thm is pure dd
- anima still here
- repair still here but better :npc that repairs everything to 99%, 4 grades of dark matter as repair material instead of different items for each equipment
- market wards have item search feature
- mob placement improved
- gear fixed (not a total train wreck like at launch)
Everything gokulo said, however, i run in windowed mode at my desktop resolution, and I can alt+tab without crashes. Not sure if this would count...
It's possible to run borderless faux fullscreen to allow for alt-tabbing, you need to use the windower app that's floating around though.
Or any number of other random utilities floating around on the internet that have nothing to do specifically with FFXIV, since it's just doing standard windows stuff (set window position + remove border).
I've heard various people attest that true full screen allows the game to run better/smoother or something. I don't know why it would make any difference but it's apparently enough of an issue that people aren't satisfied with positioning the windowed screen to achieve the same effect.
