The van excels in situations where you're using both fire and thunder spells. Since that's what current raids have you doing, it takes the helm on most things. Still, it's good to have a lightning brand with INTx2 around for your power situations like coincounter or general farming. Matching chokers pack a real punch altogether, though in raids you'll probably opt for a mage's choker. Just trying to get ahead of the questions I guess.

    Question

I play XIV using a controller. When moving your character with the analog stick, is there a way to set it so your character will always run and not walk? Every once in a while my character will walk and it screws me over every once in a while for fights like Ifrit.

You should always run unless you have the walk toggle on (yellowish character by the movement icon will be present if you do have the toggle on).

I'm not sure what the keystroke is for a non-chat keyboard, but if you're on the chat-specific keyboard setting 1 on the Numpad will toggle walk.

That's the thing I'm not toggling walk when it happens. It will walk for a second or two, and then go into a run when I move the analog stick a bit. It only happens when I use an analog on my gamepad >_<. I guess when it does walk its 1 blue bar instead of two. It doesn't go to yellow though.

Well, that's could be because it's supposed to be touch sensitive, that is you walk if you don't press it strong enough.

yeah that's why I'm wondering if there was a way to turn that off, and just have it auto 2 blue bars.

    Is your gamepad messed up?

Sure you're just not pressing hard enough? I'm on gamepad and never have this issue.

I think it might be my gamepad being messed up but I wasn't sure it generally isn't an issue but for things like Ifrit when I need to book it as soon as I see eruptions, its bad when it decides to go into a walk. It happens randomly, even when I have the analog stick all the way pushed out, generally it does it when I'm pushing it slightly diagonal.

For the record, if you are using motionjoy and a PS3 controller MAKE SURE you disable the sixaxis. We made that mistake with my wife's controller and the first time her movement got mapped on the sixaxis and was causing a lot of issues; the second time her camera was mapped to it. It was sort of neat with the camera because she could tilt the controller and it would spin the right way, but ultimately it drove her nuts.

Go into controller config and set the calibration to a lower number, see if that helps.

It probably varies with different controllers but I found .2 to be the best, anything lower and my char won't be able to stand still and just perpetually twitch/move.

You also have to keep in mind latency and that the servers are still shit, the game may recognize that you're moving but take an extra moment to recognize how far you've pressed the analog stick.

Alright thanks for the help everyone. I think the gamepad I have been using is just broken. I was testing out settings and calibration and nothing was really changing. I used the Test Gamepad under gamepad settings and noticed that it did not have any touch sensitivity (at least through the test gamepad it was acting like a d-pad)

I tried a different controller, It was playing the game a lot shittier and was touch sensitive, but at least I could tell that it wasn't doing shit randomly, so I'm pretty sure it may just be my controller I use.

By acting like a D-pad you mean the analog sticks were only registering as all or nothing?

Does either controller have an analog button/switch that you can activate/deactivate? I play with a PS2 dualshock controller (USB converter) and you have to turn on the analog function for it to work right, just a thought.

Stupid question. Is there a way to reset ability points once you've used them?

When you do the first job quest (for every job) you get a "Keeper's Hymn". By going to a guild (might need to be the guild for that specific class, I don't know) and giving them one of those items (I forget which person, but it's one of the ones behind the counter), you can reset your attribute points. Make sure you are currently on the class you want to reset points for when you do this.

There are one-time-use items, and you can currently only obtain 7 (one from each job quest), so use them wisely.

You trade the Keeper's Hymn to the Guild-Mark Exchange person and it can be at any Guild. I reset my WHM allocation at the Maraduer's Guild.

Anybody figure out exactly what gives 1k seals for Caravan? I've seen the video on youtube of the group getting 1k by doing the 4 stops, but when my group did the same thing (At Skull Valley though, not drybone, still all 4 stops) we only got 750.

I think it's certain # of mobs killed. Sometimes even if you do all the stops, the game doesn't spawn enough mobs to push you over the amount needed for 1k. I've done several runs in succession and seen 1k and 750 mixed in and the runs were identical besides sometimes instead of 4 amalj'aa, only 3 spawned, stuff like that. At least that's my experience with it.

    Interesting, thanks.

On that note, we just had 3 crabs spawn whereas last run only 1 popped, so yeah you're probably right.

    Edit: still only 750

    It's 50 mobs or 8m

It's pretty tough to get 8m though.

To get 50 you have to hold the Caravan up at certain spots, this causes the extra mobs to pop. Doing so makes it really tough to get back in time for the next caravan. It's basically spam through chat->zone->hope your ssd doesnt fail you->chocobo noises->hope you make it

I have no idea where to stop it, I google fu'd a lot and couldn't find definitive shit so best to just go with JP's lol
