Has anything really changed gear-wise since they added griffon/vanya? I imagine Darklight is still top tier...

Griffon/Vanya is class-locked (no jobs can wear it), so it's still niche gear. I suppose I'm a bad example though since I just wear AF (I refuse to blow my gil before 2.0 hits). Maybe the pros use it, idk. /lazy

Yeah most of darklight is still top tier, but you can comfortably hit stat caps with double/triple melded gear. I guess the only thing that may have changed gear wise are some militia items.

I played alpha/beta fairly extensively, but fell off the radar at launch. Most of everything seems to have changed, and I wanted to get up and running before 2.0. I'm trying to figure a server to start on, one that has a decent representation on the forums, but it seems like most of the profiles show old server names.

Are there any suggestions on what server a new player should begin? Alternatively, are there any sort of new-friendly, question-answering shells around who adopt? The recruitment forum shows a lot of posts like this one without any replies, so I couldn't really get a bead from there.

What affects the EXP multiplier in this game? One instance I will notice it's at 25% after I kill a mob, the next it's over 70 or 90%.

Exp chains is one thing, but also links, the more links you get the more multiplier will the linked mobs have.

Id go with Durandal. Got some friends playing on here that only started last week and they are enjoying the game only after coming back similar to yourself. Good representation of EU, NA & JP. Always seeing EXP shout parts for around 25 ~ 40 range so never short there. Plenty of LS social and end game options as well. Plenty of PUG Primal fights as well.

It does have some quiet points in the evening around 11pm GMT until around 1am GMT when the EST/PST people are coming online.

Can someone link me to the process of getting FFXIV Updates through the likes of uTorrent etc? Basically how you d/l the updates through a torrent client.

1) Run the client so it starts downloading the patch then stop it (remember the name of the patch)
2) Go to Documents/My Games/Final Fantasy XIV/downloads/ffxiv/ - there will be 2 folders with weird names and inside them folders called "metainfo". I don't remember which of the two it should be but just go inside the patch folders and look for the patch by its name. It's a torrent file you can run in any torrent client.

Thanks for the responses! With regards to Garuda, what stats should generally be aimed for? On my Warrior, I'm kinda at a standstill regarding gear.

I'll post my set-up, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Main: Ifrit's Battleaxe / Malignant Mogaxe
Throwing: ____ Francisca
Head: Fighter's Burgeonet
Body: Militia Cuirass
Hands: Sentinel's Cuirass (STR materia x3, +40)
Legs: Felt Trousers (STR+16, VIT+18)
Feet: Sentinel's Sabatons (HP Materia x2, HP+142)
Ears: Stonewall / Explorer's
Neck: Stonewall / Electrum
Wrists: Coral Armillae +1 / Rubellite Bracelets
Rings: Amber/Rubellite/Electrum
Waist: Sentinel Plate Belt (Enmity+40)

My gear is mostly geared for tanking, so as you can tell it's not the best for doing damage. Problem is, I can't think of anything else that I should meld onto my gear.

Garuda is extremely evasive compared to most bosses. I usually play BRD or BLM or WHM on Garuda, but when I do use WAR, I believe I run with two Electrum Rings +1 and Explorer's Choker plus Flame Sergeant's Sash and potentially Stuffed Cabbage on top of that. If you're in the MT role, you might want to use Militia Choker, depending on how hard your DPS players are pushing up against the enmity ceiling. Garuda doesn't really hit that hard, so the only gib potential is when you're tanking Garuda + one of her clones, but even then, as long as the WHM doesn't get stunned more than once, you should be fine. Remember that you can use Sentinel and Vengeance as alternating damage reduction abilities.

We tried the torrent option, no seeders/peer's for either of us, thousands of miles apart with different torrent programmes, computers, isp's etc

Still working on this damn patch, my UPLOAD speed is consistantly between 60~90KB/s but my download speed keeps hovering around 1KB/s ~ 30KB/s now, and then back down to 0 when it gets a new connection. Seriously, why is it so broken? I've been trying to download this for over 3 hours

Edit: Up to 55% downloaded and over 4 hours now...

Tried uTorrent? I left my official patcher up for 2 hours and got 25% of the way done. I gave up on that, loaded up uTorrent, unloaded/reloaded the dishwasher, and when I came back it was done.
