@Alkar for a second I thought you were about to show me where Parley would be an integral part of FFXIV and I was frantic with worry.
If it wasn't so painfully easy/boring/slow/stupid it wouldn't be so bad.
Parley wouldn't be nearly as bad if it didn't take 5 mintes for the tiles to refresh after someone takes a turn.
Any advice/tips on the moogle fight btw? My ls kills it but it always seems to be a messy fight with wipes not uncommon enough, and many times our wins are after 5 people having died and raised. We usually have tank (pld or war depending) 2 whm 3 brd 1 blm 1 melee dps (usually drg). Kill order we've been doing is pom, shaggy, kogi, tail, kipp, kappa, king, koop. I figured this would be one of those things that we would improve with in time but every fight is messy especially in regards to whiskerwall. We know to SC bind him, but that only helps so much.
What's weird about it, is there is a person who does shouts for it all the time, and a lot of my lsmates team up with her. I did a run and there was 4 from my ls in the pt, and she got a tank who she kept fawning over. "you need to teach people how to kite!" n' such. The tank was amazing and kept hate on everything, and even had a different kill order where we actually killed whisker 4th and kappa last. Trying that as our ls is a fucking joke though.
I mean, we are improving, but it's slow and I feel like we keep doing the same shit to the point I feel we'll always be messy. Just wondering if anyone's found some tricks that have helped make the fight a lot less messy.
If your tank and WHM's are bad, that fight can be a pain.
So basically, your tank and WHM's are probably not doing well. The DPS aspect is pretty easy, and of course the longer they are out the worse it can be, but that is generally never the problem (If you can kill them before they summon, then you have enough dps)
@Moogles, I usually do:
1 WAR on Marauder and King (at least), kiting around the arena (at the very least run from flares). Can also hold the Conjurer and Bard without any extra effort. I do Antagonize/Sentinel/Steel Cyclone combo at the start of phase 2 (you can use skills on the king before Memento goes off) and then Bloodbath+Cylone everything while moving in phase 2.
1 PLD or WAR holds the Gladiator & Thief. Bonus points for not being useless and actually DPSing the called target when the Gladiator isn't resetting.
Hate is kept between phases - if your tanks are provoking/flashing on cooldown and getting at least one enmity combo off per moogle (skull sunder, flat blade) in phase 1 then there should be no problems with hate in phase 2. The King/Gladiator have hate resets and their respective tanks have to provoke+flash when the log says the moogle has been called for help if the enmity bar turns green.
Depending on how good/fast the healers are, one good tank can reliably hold/kite most of the moogles, but combinations of Break+Moogle eye shot+Flare+Maximoogle can end up in hilarious results if the tank/healers aren't on the ball.
Collusion + Flare after the King pops is also helps. Didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but I might've missed it.
Antagonize + sentinel + SC along with it helps as well.
If your WAR is good you can combo the king as the ritual goes on for the combo bonus rather than doing a naked SC (the 1st 2 WSs will be for 0 but you'll still get the combo).
My smoothest ever pickup moogle has been with 5 melee DPS which consists of 4 DRG 1 MNK, 2 WHM and a tank surprisingly (few runs ended at 18min clock). The faster u kill minions, the easier this fight gets and BRD is really terrible DPS if u compare to melee DPS.
Yeah, I always wondered why people were still favoring BRD in that fight...
BRD still has a way easier time posting combos and is less reliant on standing in one spot eating Pom Flare. A good BRD can post identical DPS to a good MNK or DRG but do it much safer.
WAR has a harder time tanking than PLD, but PLD needs to rock an enmity set because they are basically doing King Behemoth v2 the entire time. Pom and Shaggy should be dead before Koop has a chance to wreak any havoc. Everyone should be using Chameleon when phase2 starts and no one should be flashing/red when moogles die in phase1 except for Pom and Koop.
Smart melee DPS far exceed BRDs now in the moogle fight. DRG and MNK kill so much faster. You can even go with 4-5MNKs and just kill order BLM > PLD > WAR > KING and the rest is cake. 1 BRD can BV paeon the melee during the ritual if you prefer to have one.
There is a Lodestone achievement that involves ending the fight in under 10mins.
This fight use to be done before jobs were introduced and the ARC tatics was best, but after JOBS came about, melee DPS simply burn thru Moogles so fast that you dont take that much dmg overall. Added in AOE Regen/SS and curaga spam from 2 WHM with chainspell Raise and Benediction, just eat everything and burn them down fast.
I know MNKs and DRGs can put up great numbers, but good BRDs will wreck them just as easily, especially if you have a good tank.
I say a good tank because when I tank that fight (I've done it more times than I care to remember) melee would be running around impotently trying to hit the next mob in the chain while the BRDs were firing/comboing away regardless of whether I still had hate or not, nvm once you're down to king your melees can get wrecked hardcore by Flare (and depending on your kill order, the WAR AoE). Combos are also a bitch and a half to land for melees as when they get hate off of the tank, with no tank for the mob to focus on they'll be spinning like a top making any directional combos a crapshoot at best.
If you're going to bring melees, they have to be good melees, and your healers need to be on the ball as well. It's not like BRD damage isn't competitive, too many people just resign to playing it as a support job (AF, no focused DD gear/accessories, etc).
edit: also it never hurts to have at least 1 THM/BLM around to help deal with the GLA, Prism+Sanguine is nice for AF (tho not terribly dangerous either way) as well as a nice buffer for when something hate resets and heads for your back line, the obvious trade off being you can't have both Flare and Prism+Sanguine with only 1 THM/BLM
Because it's safer and you have to be pretty bad to mess up combos or die on BRD.
Maybe your servers have better pugs, but I don't trust half the people I invite to play BRD, nevermind melee.
Not that I disagree, melee outperform BRD/BLMs as long as they're played by people that can avoid flares, know how to stay alive, and don't mess up combos.
I think the problem might be some people speaking from pug experience and some from LS runs experience ^^;
Considering the vast majority of players are doing things with pickups (or at least partial pick ups) it's generally better assume they don't have a consistent group to do things with, much less seasoned, experienced players.
ty for all the advice! I'm going to pass it over to my lsmates so we can try and figure it out. Interesting about the brds though as ya we've been stacking them but two of the brds are newer brds so their gear isn't as great as some of their melee job.
One other question. Niiro you mentioned something like "depending on kill order" I am curious what you meant by that. Kill order we've been going off of was based on the order for the pugs. Outside the obvious things like "kill pom first because he'll aoe the crap out of everyone" is there any significance as to why people kill the order they kill in? (I know we kill shaggy next 'cause of fats)
