I need help choosing my race. I want to try whm so lalafell seems appropriate, but it would also be awesome to have a giant roegadyn named Marshmellow Hugs all dressed in white robes throwing out cures.

Appropriate how? This is not XI, the races don't have such huge stat differences to even bother, just choose what you like.
Despite the differences currently being tiny, hadn't they actually mentioned completely removing the stat differences between character races/clans in ARR? (I think this was quite a while ago.)
what is the relationship between str and attack power?
on war, i was using af gloves (298str 314vit, 529atk), and i upgraded to cobalt mitts with +52 str (350str, 310vit, 519atk)using 25k GC axe. on a lv 50 and 52 mob, i noticed a 10-20 point damage per hit DEcrease because (im assuming) i lost the 10 attack power, and my non-crit weaponskills seem to be if not lower, about the same. where i noticed a large increase was a critical hit steel cyclone. sometimes it would do about the same, but my ceiling increased by about 400.
what should i be aiming for to fight garuda?
10 attack power will never make your damage change by 10~20 points. Sounds like you just eyeballed it on two monsters that weren't even the same level? Bad testing.
+52 STR is way better than 10 attack, no question there.
its definitely happening. yes i eyeballed it, but i dont need a parser to tell me that with af gloves my damage is 290-317 and with cobalt it is 280-305. i fought the same mob about 10 times each. with a parser using WSs, the dps was af 109dps, cobalt 130. this is showing me that like ffxi, str is your celing, and attack is your range.
i agree that the 52 str is better, no argument. but what im looking for is what do they both effect. and how do i optimize
It would be in everyone's best interest to not bother testing stats until re-release because there will be changes. Aside from the fact that shit like this has already been tested significantly in its current form.
laff
im not looking to test a formula, i just wanted to see what kind of benefit i got from spending 13mil on gloves. all i want is to optimize myself right now and fight garuda, what stats do i need
Well, it has been said that the current stat caps are for WSs and not for auto-attacks. I'm not sure how much research has been done on auto-attack (and I'm with mioko here in thinking that no one should bother), but if you're already at your STR cap for auto-attacks, then losing atk and adding STR would make your numbers go down.
Complete guess. I don't follow this math crap too closely.
450 acc on war? wow thats alot. im at about 360, not sure how to increase that by 100 without crippling my str
Are you using the Flame GC axe without triggering the bonus? Churchill is probably using the Moogle Axe, so there's 30 acc difference. I can't even guess where the rest is coming from. I'm quite comfortable on WAR riding 400acc, but I don't do Garuda.
Moogle/Garuda's axe, LT axe if it has ACC
Only axes you should be using on WAR really.
Edit
I use Garu's
400 is fine for most stuff, but Skull Sunder tends to miss even on Ifrit(Hard) with that much. (Though I usually only wear like 389 for IfritX but I'm not tanking)
i use lt right now, it has acc if i use sanction, which is silly. im working on moogle axe, which would put me at 390ish.. i need to be 450 minus food and buff? jeez
thanks for the help, i'll see what i can work out
450 is with food
Wait--what? There are -no- Lieutenant weapons that are triggered by Sanction. What is the exact name of the weapon you are using? Your facts are now contradicting each other, and I'm still trying to figure out what your weapon is, or alternatively, what GC you're in.
For Churchill -- 450 with full party buff as well, I guess? I always forget to take that into account.
The Sergeant's axes iirc

Also, sanction is hella easy to keep up. Shouldn't be losing though.
I don't think that shows in the window
Edit: Anyone who has tanked on WAR can chime in, but I am 95% sure Skull Sunder has an accuracy penalty. I can parse 99% accuracy in a fight and all my misses will be Skull Sunder. I won't miss any other WS, I will rarely miss auto attacks, but I will miss my enmity combo. This is similar to PLD, so I'm not surprised at it. That's why I go overboard-ish.
unfortunately im flame lt. its my understanding that sanction fades when you die and is not stackable. as often as people fail at primals, i dont think i could hold sanction very well
