As far as getting patches, is there any special method of doing that or would simply copy pasting my folders work? I'm not all that familiar with 14's file system nor have I done any reinstalls with it before so I'd just need some basic info before doing it.

As a side note, is there a way to play "full screen" in this game without using SE's crappy one that crashes when you click off or alt-tab? I don't like windowed mode @.@ I found a few things I thought might do it but I'm not certain if they are being kept up with or not or if they even work.

I don't have any place to host it myself, sadly. And I agree, it may not be very important (now) with 1.0 going down so soon, but I personally play on a CE Buddy Pass, my brother will be playing on a CE Buddy Pass, so having the ability to actually install the game somewhere new would be nice.

I'm fairly certain you can copy/paste folders just like in XI - game does file check to ensure you're all set and then downloads what it's missing.

What may work is hosting it at the location you have available, and contacting Kohan to see how they've got their data hosted for the XI thread.

Okay, I'll look at that. I'll test it to be sure everything works first though, since it'd be terrible if I got the files hosted and they didn't work, and worse for the people downloading them. Was very difficult for me to find a copy of the game with ARR on the horizon so I'd imagine this would be nice for people for... The next 15(or 30 if they don't care about their progress) days lol.

I appreciate it. Right now, we don't know how they'll handle 2.0, if it's a direct digital download for the install then this is moot, but if not and it's more of an update to our current install...then until such a time a 2.0 .iso is hosted anyone who lost discs or uses a buddy pass is in the same boat. If they have confirmed complete wipe/new digital download, then I apologize for the hassle as that will be no problem come launch.

You can do anything you want in an update. It could easily be an update, unless you're getting nit-picky about what you mean by the word "update". The game client will be brand new, but it'll more than likely still come down the same updater.

SE has always been un-keen on actually being able to download their full game - regardless of the fact it is unplayable without an actual account anyway. eg, Blizzard has WoW available for download at any time, FFXI requires you to go and purchase a copy. I suppose that's what inclines me to believe they'd just update everything through the current system. Update launcher ->update files.

I could be wrong as shit, but wouldn't XI be possibly re-downloadable from Steam if you ever ended up buying one of those copies after it released on there?

Technically, yes, though I think that's more of a requirement for working through Steam than any decision on SE's part. Plus, it's steam storing/transmitting the files (I think?) instead of SE.

I can't see why with 2.0 they won't just anyone with an active account to dl the game from their servers. They will have todo this regardless for the rerelease for current 1.0 clients.

One would think they would want their game accessible with free trials and all for anyone who wanted to try it out with a hope that they might like it enough to keep paying... But no, they'd rather chase new subs off by making things as difficult as possible. I don't think they really have a very solid handle on how MMO's work, one would think that 10 years of XI would have taught them a few things but I continually see the same mistakes in 14, and laughably, I see some of the same mistakes that have already been fixed in XI.

I know 14 isn't on steam(at least when I was hunting it down) but is ARR going to be?

Lol, I'm not really hoping for that. Really satisfied I got as much done before servers go down. The only thing I could be happy to do still is to get a Garuda win for the achiv, but I would need to be really lucky with some great PUG.
