Is there a location that has current information on the servers going down, when, and the timing of the beta/ release, etc? I tried to look on SE's site and I can't actually learn anything other than "ARR is coming!" blah blah balh

Servers are going down Oct 31/Nov 1 depending on where you live. As for when it's coming back up, the exact dates for alpha/beta tests, no one knows.
Ok thanks! Is there a place where I can find this info in the future, so I don't have to post here or waste someone's time? If not I'll just check in here end of nov lol.
Lodestone seems to be where a couple of people get their information from. Although I myself wouldn't trust that site.
Waraji is semi right lodestone has good but slow info
Problems starts if you use the OF with the grass drama and other shit
Well, from what I've read, the game looks like it has made significant changes and appears to be enjoyable. Have they implemented a materia type system? I remember my friend from xi that played xiv said they were considering something like that. I'm also excited for new jobs (smn, hopefully some more mage jobs in the future). Although how would that work? My understanding is that say, you have thuamaturge or w/e at 45, and you become a whm or blm (whichever one uses that as the preclass) you're also 45? (I believe I've read that jobs don't have lvls and are solely based on the lvl of the primary prerequisite class). So if smn gets introduced, you'd either be a 45 smn after unlocking it, or they would need a new mage class prerequisite? Or am I missing something entirely.
Yes there's a materia system.
The way jobs work is you get a class to 30, and a sub class to 15, and do a quest to unlock a job. The Job's level is the same as the primary class' level. Sub class' level doesn't effect anything at all, it just has to be 15 to start the first job quest.
To answer the SMN job question, they're adding the class Arcanist.
Materia's been in the game for what almos a year?, but they will change the system in 2.0
To unlock jobs you need 'SJ'
Exemple to unlock PLD you need CNJ at 30 and MRD at 15
damn you fievel
Oh cool. Anywhere have info on arcanist/smn? (Im terribly bored at work right now haha)
http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com
thats all atm not alot of info
Oh, not much but cool. Is there any reason to stay as a class when fighting instead of a job? I guess I don't see the point of the classes much.
The only class I see used ATM is thm on Garuda
But only jp uses it
Ah, so there are really no benefits to being a class over a job. So then when on a job, can you still lvl up (the class obviously lvls, letting the job go up as well) Or do you have to actually exp on the class?
Cool. Does there happen to be a wiki page for xiv like there is for xi that I could just skim through and read on stuff, since I'm sure you two are getting tired of answering my stupid questions? lol
i used ffxiv.gamerescape.com or mooglebox.com but there is not much of a WIKI like in old FFXI gold days
In a discussion about ifrit X strategy (in particular HF mitigation) people were recommending mega VIT potions and DRGs cancelling Power Surge.
Which lead to me being very confused, people were saying that VIT reduces physical and magical damage, and power surge, which lowers physical DEF, somehow matters why?
