now that you are talking about server transfer...i have a doubt, does anyone know if 1.0 players will be able to transfer between old servers? im coming back to the game for 2.0 launch and im stucked at ragnarok and id like to go to masamune where i have more friends, and im not sure if it will be possible, a friend of mine says yes but i didnt find anything about producers saying so

Yoshi-P has stated that there will be regional data centers for version 2.0. With that said, I believe it is safe to assume that server transfers will be allowed, because everyone will essentially be picking new servers. Other than that they haven't released too much info about how many servers there will be, where they will be located, and their capacity. I'm sure we'll learn more about this when 2.0 comes closer to release.

When service begins for A Realm Reborn we'll be creating new worlds for new players. For a certain amount of time, existing users will be unable to move to these fresh-start worlds. (This is the information we received, but we'll be trying to get clarification on this later today)

Before we finalize details for current players wishing to transfer, we'll need to consider how we'd want to handle returning players. We'll be looking at the options with regard to the Beta Test conditions.

Some of you have been asking about the bullet point we mentioned during the FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary Event Special Talk Session about “improving the amount of freedom of world transfers” -- this meant that we will be setting up a world transfer service similar to FFXI.

I don't mind waiting before given the chance to move to a regional server, but I don't want to be charged to do it after the fact. All accounts created prior to ARR should have the option of doing a free, one-time world transfer for all characters made before ARR launches.

Sorry, to clarify, our post is specifically answering a question about users wanting to change after they've chosen new servers. We're not saying existing players will remain on current servers until a time that is designated for people to move.

How big playerbase are they expecting for ARR? Considering the game has a bad reputation from the terrible first year(s), I wonder how many people will give it a second chance, and if it will even be able to survive for any greater period of time.

No doubt they'd need probably at least 200,000 subscribers, but from digging around the sub numbers from mid 2011, it was close to 20-40,000, which is very low.

When I read off-site articles about ARR, I make a point to read all the comments that are generally coming from the average moron (as opposed to more RPG-centric or Square-Enix-centric communities) and I've been pretty impressed with how many people say shit like "blah blah I tried this game when it was released and it was total crap, I might actually come back to try it."

The "End of an Era" made a pretty big splash in that regard. Generated a shitload of buzz.

Here's to hoping the average idiot understands how much the game has been redeveloped from the ground up and disregards 1.0's scores.

It might be because I am european, and FFXI was/is extremely minor here, and FFXIV takes "being minor" that to a whole new level, being a generally unheard of game for a lot of people, other than the fact that it was terrible when it was launched.

We'll see what happens, a lot of players just does not give games second chances after they quit once.

I just never got around to test it because I was happy in my previous MMO once it was released and had really no reason to try it.

Yeah, also no other MMO had a whole complete relaunch like ARR is planning. It's almost as if a new game was being released, so there's a chance to garner some interest again.

In addition to the PR from SE, it will also be up to us to "spread the gospel" so to speak. I've already made some posts in appropriate threads (i.e. FF thread on a non-videogame site).

I've found hitting some key points will resonate with folks who are aware of 1.0's bad reputation: the game is rebuilt from the ground up; they've acknowledged the failings of 1.0; the new devs have made enormous progress despite the terrible engine/server; the game in alpha is already receiving enormous positive feedback; old players will get a free trial month of ARR. From what I've seen folks are rather willing to give 2.0 a fair shot and I think we can do a lot to encourage that.

Ok, so I'm having trouble logging into the Lodestone forums. I have had an active SE account for some time now, so I am really confused.

Only thing that might be a turn off for people is players at the cap already.

That alone turns the new feel off.

You could turn the game on day one of ARR and you are seeing people with top end gear and what not.

As long as you do not mind that its new yes.

Also what's that point to play?nothing saves till relaunch, right?

FFXI had people at high levels already when it was released in the US (the Japanese players), and that didn't ruin the game. I thought it helped make the whole world much more real... running around and seeing low level players, then bumping into people with neat AF and shiny weapons I didn't understand the use of whatsoever at the point.

I'm kind of bummed out that they're regionalizing the servers though. It was fun having people on 24/7 because people were logging in from all time zones. And it's not like interaction with japanese/english players was forced on you in anyways, despite everyone being on the same server. It was just something a few people took advantage of and others didn't. I'm more bummed out that they're doing that instant-party forming search from across multiple servers as I understand. Instant party forming is great, but I really liked getting to know the people on my server. I'd much prefer an instant-form that only worked from your own server I think. I'm not really sure why they went against that. It added a lot of community to xi, getting to know people. Instant forming to cut down on wasted time is nice, but is it really necessary to expand it across multiple servers to get the parties formed quickly enough? I don't know. I guess they've thought about it.

Anyways, I'm (almost) certainly going to go back and give it a shot. I complain about the above stuff, but a lot of the actual game changes seem to be pretty nice.

Is it saying you don't have any characters? I can log into the client and it shows my char from 1.0, but when I log into lodestone I get

and I don't know why.
