get a klobb, the villains will cower at your feet
Hit the background check with a water bottle.
I'm seconding the Klobb. Is get one if I could.
1911's have always been a great design, hence it being around for 101 years. Though some folks find the grip of a single stack to be a little thin, but if it feels right to you then that would be a fantastic choice. Colt puts out a great product so you should have the gun for at least your lifetime, minus swapping out some springs after a while. Learn the maintenance schedule in the manual!
This is truth. I have a vast gun collection, but I recently got my 1st 1911 a few months back. I had a thread open about it, and got alot of feedback.
It was most certainly not cheap, but I have a Rock Island Armory 1911, and it is easily one of the best handguns I've ever owned. Reliable, never jams, accurate as can be, and just flat out looks like a motherfucking beast.
But good luck finding one in your price range -.-;;
If you have to buy one for a job can't you write it off
Seriously creeps me out to see people talking so nonchalantly about things designed purely to kill people. But hey, I guess that's Americans and ridiculous gun craziness for you.
/Australian living in the UK who is more than happy with strict gun control out
DA 1911s are confirmed for terrible. Carrying in condition one is all you need unless your job has rules on carry conditions.
And know that 1911s is a solid metal platform and weighs quite a bit more than the polymer Glock. Some people like the extra weight for reducing recoil, some people hate the shit out of it because it can feel sluggish drawing to a target.
For your price range you're not going to get a particularly good 1911, most likely something like Paraordinance, RIA, or Taurus. Not to say those manufacturers are bad (My Taurus 1911 performs nearly as well as my Nighthawk), but generally the better models start at 1k with the high end customs at around 5k.
Finally, picatinny rails on a 1911 are just tacky as fuck. They are not some AR-15 that needs a foregrip, bayonet, M203, and a variable zoom scope to function.
Edit: My semi-large gun collection needs a Mauser K98k. Matching bolt and receiver. 75% or better on barrel. Stock isn't modified/sporterized/ruined. For 500 bucks or less. Go.
Your point being?
Knives - useful for chopping things up in the kitchen. What function does a semi-automatic pistol perform other than killing/wounding people, or threatening to do the same? I don't get your point.
Knives were first used by cavemen for chopping scallions for their souffle's.
You realize that the first and primary use of guns by 75% or more of gun owners in the US is for sport/hobby, not killing or wounding, right? Enough shitting up this thread, there is a political forum for that kind of shit. He needs recommendations for a gun for his job, which means it'll be used for protection.
I'm looking to grab a CZ75 within the next month or two. I would get a glock, but I have read a lot of rave reviews about how great the CZ is and how accurate and wonderful it is for the price. You can't go wrong with a lot of weapons mentioned here.
