Interesting, I didn't know that. Question hopefully someone knows: when I was GameStop the other day I asked about them doing midnight release. I mentioned to the guy that I had been the first guy to preorder the Deluxe and considering I hadn't ever Day 1'd a system, I wasn't sure on the protocol. He said he couldn't guarantee they would but he could guarantee that he'd have a huge line outside if there was, and if not there'd be on Sunday morning when got into work with people trying to get preorders ASAP as well as people trying to get preorders not picked up. Does the preorder spot not matter and I'm just guaranteed one at "some point"? This seems stupid if that's the case and the guy I preordered with said that was never the case on the systems he preordered and they would just call you when they came in based on your number on the preorder list. I haven't had a chance to call the store yet since every time I remember to call they're closed, but does anyone know the answer?

With consoles, head office gives them a "rough estimate" of stock they can expect to recieve for launch day; and they can only sell a certain amount of them as preorders; if you have a preorder you're pretty much guaranteed one unless they recieve less than they were expecting to recieve; at which point it's first come first serve for people who have preorders.

I'm lucky and i'm just going to drive my roomate to work and be the first transaction of the day :D

My store said they are taking a list in order of those who pre-ordered. I was the first one to pre order at my store so ill get one for sure. They took 11 pre-orders for the Deluxe over all so i'm sure im fine.

But i think it is store to store. They also know me there (did a bunch of trade ins lately to pay off the Wii U and 3 games) so im sure they will make sure ill get mine.

i'm also first one to preorder but they don't keep order

aka when they did WII we had 2 lines

1 Preorder and 1 non preorder

Preorder went in first and when they werent anymore preorder console they told people well sorry!

But they keep saying 'don' worry we will have enough for preorderes'

I do know how it work I even asked them they said if we get 19 consoles out of preorder and you come in the store as #20 you won't get one even if you preorder first

But they keep satin they will get more consoles then preorders so guess I'm safe

first on the list (day after the announcement since we didn't get it in England til after the stores closed) but its a first come first served basis but as long as there are more Wii Us then what has been preordered all perorders will get one

all launch shipment will be preordered, none to walk in sales available. they also have a wait list for after all of those allocations are finished. as far as midnight launch goes it's highly unlikely. the systems are preordered and making the sale at midnight or making it at say an early opening at 9am on a sunday, doesn't really make a difference. theres also other reasons why midnights have never been done on a sunday launch either, its typically just early openings.

I'd be shocked if another shipment makes it out for christmas. I'm probably just gonna end up selling mine to some desperate mom outside a store for $800+

other wii shipments came before x-mas so doubt it would be different for this.

Some place got some wii before Christmas but got like 1-2 per shipment (at least here)

I worked at best buy in OR during Wii launch and I know for a fact we got a 2nd shipment before Christmas. Was like 20 units.

Well, if its the norm or not, there were still second shipments sent out. Not everyone might have gotten one (smaller stores, ma and pa stores, etc) but they still shipped more after the first wave.

So what is the general consensus on the Wii U? Buy? Wait six months after launch? Don't buy at all?

I am really only interested in it for one game and buying it specifically for that would be silly.

Buy at release or call shops each day for possible shipments
