Also, I find it funny that I find myself looking at the gamepad by habit (last x amount of mario games being handheld) when playing Mario instead of my TV. Playing the game on the gamepad is actually really good, and compared to my 720p TV, looks better too.

So is the Wii U Pro Controller seriously not compatible with Mario? Trying to get the game to recognize the controller and it apparently seems like it wants you to use the shitty nunchuck things from the previous system (which we don't have). What the fuck Nintendo?

nsmbU is Gamepad + Wiimote only

If you look at the back of the gamebox it will show you the icon of the compatibility

Seems like the gamepad works fine, but I wanted to play multiplayer with the girlfriend, we were really looking forward to that.

That's really fucking stupid, like monumentally stupid. For what reason would the Pro controller possibly not be compatible? I guess I should have done more research before we picked up our preorder but the thought had never even crossed my mind that such a scenario would be possible.

You can play solo with the gamepad.

The problem I was pointing out that I learned via GiantBomb's video for the game, is that for two people to actually play, you need two remotes. Gamepad is stuck in 'block placing' mode in anything above single-player. Would it have been so hard to just give the gamepad user the option between playing or placing blocks? At least they can patch shit this time around, so perhaps they'll address that issue sometime.

So is there a list of compatible games anywhere that show what the Pro controller actually works with? And to follow up on that question, is that shitty wii-mote thing guaranteed to be compatible with everything?

Also, sorry for the rabid nerd rage, I just seriously do not understand this one bit. A 2d side scrolling traditional Mario game REQUIRES the wii mote controllers? Seriously Nintendo? Does the game require some kind of motion sensing or something?

Looks like the Pro controller works with all 3rd party games, but first party and any of the original Wii games will not support it.

There's probably those tilt-based platforms that NSMB Wii had, but that's the kinda shit you could map to the shoulder buttons anyways. Same for the waggle command.

    System Reviews

    System Update

When you boot up your Wii U, you should be prompted to download an system software update, which will add Miiverse, the Nintendo eShop, and the Internet Browser applications. The download is approximately 1 gigabyte in size, and according to several reports, a very slow process. Be sure not to power off your system during the update. L.A. Times’ Ben Fritz reports that it’ll completely brick your system, rendering it useless. Some users, however, are reporting that their Wii U powered down on its own during the update, essentially bricking itself.

    Nintendo eShop

Here’s your launch lineup for the Nintendo eShop, courtesy of NeoGAF:

    Retail Games

    • Assassin’s Creed II - $59.99
    • Darksiders II – $59.99
    • Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two – $59.99
    • ESPN Sports Connection – $49.99
    • FIFA 13 – $59.99
    • Game Party Champions – $49.99
    • Just Dance 4 – $49.99
    • Madden NFL 13 – $59.99
    • New Super Mario Bros. U – $59.99
    • Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge – $59.99

    • Nano Assault Neo – $9.99

    Miiverse Moderation

Miiverse is a moderated social platform for Wii U. How moderated? Nintendo asks that you try not using words like “idiot” in your updates. Jim Sterling from Destructoid posted the following update in the Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition community, which was removed for “Violent Content”: “Best bit is when The Batted Man kicks Doctor Octopus in the head and says ‘SHUT UP IDIOT!’” As Sterling puts it, this is “in a community for a game in which arms are broken, people are shot, and Catwoman is called a ‘bitch’ roughly ten thousand times.”

    Miiverse Minor Registration

Nintendo has come up with its own way of verifying minors (ages 12 and under) as permissible for registration on Nintendo Network. Parents must enter their credit card information, which afterward will not be stored on the Wii U, and accept a $0.50 charge, which will not be refunded. According to Wii U’s online support page, once the first child is set up, you will only need the Parental Control PIN to add any additional children. You will not be charged after the first child.

    System Specs

Wii U has 2 gigabytes of Samsung DDR3 memory running at a max speed of 17 gigabytes per second. To compare, Xbox 360 runs at a max of 22.4 gigabytes per second, and has eDRAM for framebuffer. PlayStation 3 runs at a max of 25.6 gigabytes per second through its main memory, plus 22.4 gigabytes for its graphics memory, but has no eDRAM. Find more information here. When reviewers claim the gamepad functions in a certain game dont add anything and list under the negatives it doesn't sit quite right with me. Firstly, that should be a neutral rather than negative for the game. Negative would mean it takes away from the game by using the gamepad for such functions, and positive would be adds to the experience. Secondly, if they shoe-horned it even more then people would bitch (even more) that it's just a gimmick stuffed in to the ports. It's a bit unrealistic to expect ports of games from the other consoles to do groundbreaking things at launch. They are in it for an early presence with limited competition at launch, and to test the waters while hopefully picking up some money.

I find it amusing Kotaku gave it a 'not yet' of all things, but gave the Vita a glowing buy now recommendation. Bias all over the place, though it's nothing new from Kotaku (or most other video game sites). Also love the sourceless claim that new xbox and ps will be out within the next year. That is a ridiculous claim to make and just demonstrates their bias that much more. They will not show at E3 for the very first time and have the system out within 6 months. That's ridiculous as hell, and there are going to be a lot of let down people come end of next year. If they were that far along there would have been a LOT more information getting leaked out, but so far there has been damn near zero information that isn't a complete rumor (like the absurd supposed specs). People seriously expecting sony and MS to aim for "1440p" to quote one commenter elsewhere (I've even seen 4k HD several times) while claiming $300 is way too expensive for the console. /shakeshead

Unfortunately, Target completely sold out of both versions here with pre-orders so I won't be getting mine till the next wave in early december which the clerk alluded to. Not gonna bother elsewhere as I can get 10% off there which will get me a deluxe for $346 vs $385 after tax. =D I believe the 5% cards (off a whole days shopping) I get randomly are from getting my prescriptions filled there, and then of course you have the RedCard giving you another 5% off. My town has 10% sales tax so that helps a ton.

Edit: Oh, and IGN is full of shit on the NG3 review. At gamesradar they do a split-screen of the 360 vs U and the U looks identical with better color/lighting. Saying it falls short of 360 like IGN said is a straight lie. I guess Nintendo should start paying reviewers better and giving them more "trips" like Square and such do so reviewers will stop being so fucking biased against them. -_-

Not seeing that much of a glowing review for Vita on Kotaku other than it saying the hardware is slick and works as it should, and it was under their old system prior to the big fat green/grey/red square saying whether to get it or not.

WiiU is a different cast anyways. Also, GiantBomb streaming shit for those interested - http://www.twitch.tv/giantbomb/

They just finished up with Batman which had some consistently bad frame-rate problems, so I'm curious if that's the fault of the developers, or that the Unreal Engine isn't completely up to snuff yet for the system.

Almost all of the reviews are pre-release reviews as Nintendo didn't give access to all the features (online infrastructure, the Miiverse social network, Nintendo Network, Nintendo TVii, and Wii backwards compatibility), also they didn't make the update available to reviews until 6hrs before launch (as a "gift," wasn't supposed to go live until launch). I do agree that a lot of the reviews are pretty crap and/or biased except Ars Technica, CNET, & Polygon. I'd say wait a week for more complete reviews to be published if anyone wants a better look at the system.

The wii U is a great console, and it's a BIG improvement from the WII of course that's IMO

The only downside I have atm is the loading time, booting loading a game and etc is kinda slow

But as for now I do not regret buying that for a second!
