Also, dislike that walls effectively limit the radius for the gamepad. Kept disconnecting while updating when I went to my room to use my computer.

I hope they add all the old virtual console games to the Wii U estore when they launch the WiiU's VC. I don't want to buy the Wii version of something then lose save features or shit when it transfers when the game shows up in the estore...
It's a huge bummer, but impossible for them to get around. My bathroom is like 4 rooms over from where my U will be. No bathroom U for me I'm pretty confident (then again... my tablet can just barely catch a signal in there so maaaaaybe).

Someone may come up with some convoluted repeater system (it is 802.11 i believe) for the gamepad in the coming years. IDK how possible something like that is/will be, but I'm sure it would add a good bit of latency to the situation even if they managed it.

Well, it has an infrared for pointer-type functions I believe, but the video stream to the pad is done via 802.11 wlan (you can even see the chip in the breakdown hardware review). You'd definitely lose any pointer type stuff, but you could at least use off-tv play if they somehow worked out a repeater for it.

Actually the more I think about it the more likely it seems it will happen down the line. The data is going to be there, they just have to grab it and re-broadcast it again. They shouldn't even need to decode or anythign since they will just pass it off and the pad will do that. 3rd party accessory companies will smell the huge potential for money here I think. The #1 question most everyone has is "can I use it on the toilet" lol.

Maybe in the future or w/e but atm you cannot connect the gamepad to the WIFI router, just the console.

Gamepad is synch the same way the wiimote is aka using the rest sync button

So maybe the chip is there but it doesn't seem used atm

Can't wait until the inevitable Mario Kart U comes out so we can all complete like we did b ack with MKWii came out. Was a lot of fun racing against BG people the few months it lasted.

Ah I see, you misunderstood what I meant. The console itself broadcast directly to the gamepad on it's on 802.11 WLAN channel. That is how they managed to push so much data to the pad with so little latency. They operate independently from your home WIFI network and have nothing to do with that. It's a purely local network between the two pieces.

Correct that it is sync'd up via bluetooth like wiimotes, but that only handles the button presses and such. It's hard to explain what I mean fully, but I'll see if I can find the Iwata asks on it for ya. Just know this, the tablet is talking to the console use three methods 1) 802.11 WLAN for Video+Audio stream to the pad 2) Bluetooth for syncing and transmitting things like button presses and all gyroscope+motion communications 3) IR (I think, not sure if it includes sensor functions or not yet) which would be for purely motion tracking of just the pointer.

Oh, and said local WLAN going on may give a bit of interference with peoples wireless if it happens to mingle just right. Changing your routers channel might help if anyone experiences wifi connectivity issues.

You sure it's not pushed due to the NFC chip?

100% sure. The NFC (near-field communication) is only used to read from certain devices with embedded NFC functionality. Typically things like certain types of cards or figurines will have them. A good example is it is what the new Samsung phones use that let them touch and share data. It just sits unused otherwise much like AR does on 3DS unless you break out the cards.

    Here ya go:
    http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interv...iu/gamepad/0/0

You can see they talk about sending the data via radio waves and packet sizes and such.

    And heres the rest:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_u

"Wireless communication with console based on IEEE 802.11n operating at 5 GHz"

Walls made of concrete or some such or do you have the U in a solid structure (especially metal) like an entertainment center?

I am definitely gonna predict so many hacks and tweaks to boost the output on the wifi transmitter lol. So many people want more range it's bound to happen. Already happens with routers so won't take long to shoe-horn it into fitting the U. :D

They definitely do, but just check out actual footage of the Wii U game.

I sent back Ragnarok (Gamefly'd) as it just wasn't challenging in the right ways. This though, this is the game that sold me on the Wii U.

I hate to already be the lazy guy, but could we get Wii U IDs added to the PSN ID/Steam ID/Gamertag thread? This thread has been moving pretty fast since Sunday and a few IDs are buried within posts of people posting their impressions of the system.

No. It's all gear and skill based. Mainly skill. You do have a hunter rank online, like a level, but it doesn't mean much. Except for what hunts you can do etc

I can't really explain MH to RPG well enough.

I would hazard a guess that it would be similar enough to Ragnarok Odyssey that you wouldn't care for it Rata. Sadly. The two games are worlds different to me, but I can see how they would be seen as the same to someone who isn't a fan. Story is basically non-existant. All 'leveling' is done via gear improvement (weapons/armor) and you work out of a hub city and go out and do missions/boss fights from there.
