    Yakuza 1 & 2 HD
Yakuza 1&2 HD Edition, initially launched on PlayStation 3 in Japan last year, is coming to Wii U, Sega announced during today’s Japanese Nintendo Direct.

The game, called Yakuza 1&2 HD for Wii U, will feature off-screen GamePad play and other Wii U-specific features. It will launch on August 8 in Japan for 5,229 yen at retail and 4,700 yen via the Nintendo eShop.

Yakuza 1&2 HD for Wii U was not announced during the Sega portion of today’s North American and European Nintendo Directs. Which means localization is either not happening, or not yet decided.

The Wonderful 101, Platinum Games’ upcoming Wii U-exclusive, will launch in North America on September 15 and in Europe on August 23, Nintendo has announced.

More details on the title will be shared at E3.

New Super Luigi U, Nintendo’s previously announced downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U, will also be released as a standalone game, Nintendo has announced.

Those who already own New Super Mario Bros. U can still download it as as a cheaper add-on, however, the retail version will not require New Super Mario Bros. U as a base.

Nintendo also shared new details. Since Mario doesn’t appear in the game, players can enjoy multiplayer by playing as Luigi, blue Toad, yellow Toad, and Nabbit.

Nabbit is a character who first appeared in New Super Mario Bros. U and stole items from Toad’s house, and players would chase him through stages to capture him.

Playable Nabbit has the same speed and jump as the other characters, but does not power up if he collects items. Instead, he doesn’t take damage when he touches enemies.

New Super Luigi U, which offers 82 updated courses, will be released as downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U on June 20 in North America and Europe for $19.99, and as a standalone game at retail for $29.99 on August 25 in North America and July 25 in Europe.

Nintendo Becomes a YouTube Partner, Auto Adverts Now Appear on Nintendo "Let's Play" Videos
Nintendo is reportedly issuing “content ID match” claims on Let’s Play videos featuring their game franchises, according to prolific YouTuber Zack Scott, who is currently playing Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.

Scott noted that Nintendo made content ID matches against a number of his videos, thus preventing him from monetizing those videos on YouTube.

In a Facebook post, Scott wrote the following message as an open letter to Nintendo:

I just want to express my feelings on the matter of Nintendo claiming not just my YouTube videos, but from several LPers as well.

I’m a Nintendo fan. I waited in the cold overnight to get a Wii. I’m a 3DS ambassador. I got a Wii U at midnight when I already had one in the mail. I’ve been a Nintendo fan since the NES, and I’ve owned all of their systems.

With that said, I think filing claims against LPers is backwards. Video games aren’t like movies or TV. Each play-through is a unique audiovisual experience. When I see a film that someone else is also watching, I don’t need to see it again. When I see a game that someone else is playing, I want to play that game for myself! Sure, there may be some people who watch games rather than play them, but are those people even gamers?

My viewers watch my gameplay videos for three main reasons:
    1. To hear my commentary/review.
    2. To learn about the game and how to play certain parts.
    3. To see how I handle and react to certain parts of the game.

Since I started my gaming channel, I’ve played a lot of games. I love Nintendo, so I’ve included their games in my line-up. But until their claims are straightened out, I won’t be playing their games. I won’t because it jeopardizes my channel’s copyright standing and the livelihood of all LPers.
So, What the Hell are Content ID Matches, Anyway?

Note that content ID matches are different from ‘copyright strikes,’ which YouTube issues a channel after processing a verified request for the full removal of a video by the copyright owner. If a channel receives “three strikes,” YouTube suspends the channel and deletes all of its videos.

Content ID matches are less severe. When a publisher issues a content ID match against a video, it allows them to monetize that video with in-video ads, block it in certain countries, or even block it from playing worldwide. If a video is blocked worldwide as a result of a content ID match, the associated channel can lose its “good standing,” and as as result lose access to certain YouTube features.

Based on Nintendo’s statement to Game Front (below), it would appear they are not opting to block videos from playing outright, but rather monetize videos over a certain length with their own ads.

As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a YouTube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the YouTube database. For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/ZackScott
    https://www.facebook.com/ZackScottFa...51890122200130

So instead of going the Sega route where they will have Let's Play videos removed, Nintendo will make money from your game play.

Yeah, people keep crying for Nintendo to die off. If you want hardcore games, play on your ps/xbox. If you want good Nintendo IPs, play on your Wii U. That said, Nintendo could make a lot more money if they made a hardcore system. I believe Nintendo has at least one more console in them. If that fails, look forward to Nintendo sticking to handhelds and all titles on those or some other innovation. I expect Nintendo to be making a new, hopefully non-Wii, console by 2015-16 if the Wii U doesnt pick up.

I don't own a Wii U, I sold my 360, and never owned a ps3. I have a Wii. I will probably buy a Wii U for Super Smash Bros. I bought both Xboxes for Halo, which I dont care much for anymore. I didn't play Halo 4. If Microsoft keep charging for xbox live, I will not be purchasing the Infinity. I am 90% sure I'll be buying a PS4.

I think EA is blackballing Nintendo.

The Wii U could make a ton of sales if they would just release some good games. They have a gold mine of IPs that they choose not to cash in on. IPs that a refresh, on console and not handheld, could win over tons of customers. Not to mention the number of sales an online capable Pokemon console open world game would generate.

If Nintendo does fail to get its shit together by 2018, look forward to Disney buying them out.

3DS had one hell of a rough start but it's finally doing better. Kind of see the same for this. Also I'm glad EA's cancer won't infest this system at least.

Not sure too many fans of Nintendo give a damn about EA. Unless of course, they do a road rash game, then I might care. If Nintendo had power equivalent to ps4/xbox and similar online structure (meaning 3rd party developers port games to Nintendo systems), I personally would never, ever buy or even think of buying a sony/microsoft system.

Making a Pokemon game on Wii-U with appropriate graphics would pull them out of this funk they're in alone. Imagine the sales, good lord.

It's all about the games. This rule isn't exclusive to Nintendo either. It's why every system has had a rocky start out the gate, and its why the ps4/nextbox will also probably have a rough time at launch and immediately after. It's also why the 3DS is doing a lot better now too.

So we know we have Pikmin 3, Smash Bros, 3D Mario, Zelda, and Mario Kart. Yeah, 5 is enough for me to drop cash on a Wii U. Sorry Nintendoomers.

They had my money at Monster Hunter announcement and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Fuck it. I don't need this console to be a PS4, I'll buy a PS4 for that. I want this console for exactly what its doing; first party titles and a new take on the technology.

EA finally making games for WII U ?

<<link deleted due to copyright problems>>

Oh EA, just make up your mind already, would you? Last week brought us a slew of controversial comments from the company regarding Nintendo's newest home console, Wii U. First, EA spokesperson Jeff Brown stated, "we have no games in development for the Wii U currently." Not long after, EA Senior Software Engineer and Architect Bob Summerwill tweeted, "WiiU is crap" and "Nintendo are walking dead."

Now it looks like EA is eating its words. During the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference, EA's CFO, Blake Jorgensen, confirmed that the company is developing games for the Wii U after all - albeit, not as many as for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Jorgensen also said, "You know, I think Nintendo's business was more [an] extension of their last console." He also commented, "I think what the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement, but it'll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go."

What a difference a week can make, eh? No details were given on exactly what EA has cooking for Wii U, though perhaps more information will come out of E3 this June.

I think i was more happy when i though EA wasn't going to WII U

So like many disappointed with the Xbox, I no longer consider Xbox one a viable purchase and the eventual new Smash bros/Zelda have made the WiiU a more appealing option now. I haven't kept up with it much since its launch, how has it improved since launch? I know its sales have been down but is the WiiU in a decent place now or should I hold out for a potential price drop when Xbox/PS4 come out.

If XOne came through with a decent console, the Wii U probably would have dropped if they were similarly priced. I don't see the PS4 being less than $399. They really should be selling Wii U's for $299 with a real hard drive.

8GB Version Drops to $240 at Target
Target has dropped the price of Wii U Basic to $240, which is 20% off the normal $300 price of the 8GB system. The US retailer has followed suit along with Asda and Amazon UK, which marked the system down to £149 earlier this month. Other retailers in the US have yet to counter the markdown, but Amazon US is selling it for $280, which is $40 more than Target. Likely, the site will match the price eventually. A present, the 32GB Wii U Deluxe model will still run you $350 at Target.
