In February, Nintendo of America filed a cybersquatting complaint against the owner of WiiU.com with the World Intellectual Property Organization, in what seemed like a slam dunk case for the video game company.

A decision in WIPO Case Number D2013-0322 was posted to WIPO’s website Saturday and Nintendo has lost.

The domain, which matches the name of Nintendo’s latest video game console the “Wii U”, will stay with its current owner.

Now, if the company wants to own WiiU.com, it may have to write a big check in order to acquire it.

I would love to read the details of that case.

Cybersquatting charges are so inconsistently ruled, and just keep going back until they win, assuming they have the money to do so. I'm sure there will be many appeals.

Can someone explain this to me? I thought it was the norm that the first person to register the site owns it unless someone wants to cut them a check for it? I always assumed some people made money doing this.

The Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act makes it illegal to register/use a domain with the intent to profit from someone else's trademark and forces the "cybersquatter" to offer to sell the domain to the plaintiff. These cases take forever because of the back-and-forth with the "cybersquatters" repeatedly asking for way too much (of course).

Karaoke U revealed, uses game pad mic

Wii Karaoke U has been announced by JOYSOUND, developers of the SiNG Party series. It’s a free game coming out in the west later this year, and you can either use your the microphone in your Wii U GamePad, or your existing SiNG Party mics to embarrass yourself.

Nintendo Life reports that the game will be available for free on the Wii U’s eShop, with the option to buy streamed songs, or pay for a limited time pass at one day, one month and 30 days. It’s also compatible with a range of USB mic devices.

The game comes with three modes – traditional score-graded play, a mode that gives you more-detailed feedback on your wailing, and finally, a mode that sees your Mii avatar swaning around the screen striking poses as you sing.

Nintendo of Europe & The Pokémon Company International today announced the upcoming Wii U Nintendo eShop release of Pokémon Rumble U: a fun packed action game, with intuitive controls and wild battles.

Pokémon Rumble U is the tale of the Toy Pokémon’s great adventure: after a mishap in the Toy Pokémon Shop, a few Pokémon capsules are swept down a river and washed up on a strange riverbank. Our heroes set out to find their way back to the Toy Pokémon Shop. Along the way our heroes discover all is not right: Can you help our friends discover why some of the Toy Pokémon are fighting each other, and what the enemy Pokémon are plotting?

Featuring every last one of the 649 Pokémon that have been discovered as far as Pokémon Black Version 2, and Pokémon White Version 2, with hundreds of moves to master Pokémon Rumble U will provide hours of entertainment for fans and new comers alike.

Pick up and play controls will allow players to jump in and play solo, or with friends, as they accompany our intrepid heroes on their quest to return to the Pokémon Toy Shop. They will pass through a variety of fun-packed locations, like Sparkly Playland, Mysterious Forest, and Blue Sky Park.

In Pokémon Rumble U the more Pokémon you defeat the more Pokémon you can befriend: different types of Pokémon have different strengths and weaknesses, so strategies can be developed to exploit these factors in battle.

Other surprises and pick-ups will crop up along the way - which will help strengthen the team, restore health, or cause damage to the opponents. Pikachu and friends will encounter Giant Bosses, and players can even use the Wii U GamePad to set off Touch Bombs when faced with many Pokémon in battle at once!

Up to four players can enjoy multiplayer battles: with cooperative play to defeat the strongest enemies with team work, or head to head battles to see who can defeat and befriend the most Pokémon in one go.

The game launches on August 15th exclusively for download via the Nintendo e-Shop on Wii U.

Nintendo holds a presentation on how to use Unity to develop games for the WiiU

At the recent Unite Nordic 2013 conference, Nintendo held a panel about developing for Wii U. During the panel, Nintendo discuss the Wii U development environment and more. Watch it below:

Earlier in the year, Nintendo announced a partnership with Unity, as a result of which the company has created a Wii U-specific version of its widely-used Unity engine, making it easy for Unity developers to move their software onto the Wii U.

There has to be something legitimate to justify $50 for an "HD" port. A higher difficulty setting, alone, is not going to cut it. If there's a "master quest," it better be substantially new content.

The reason it's 49.99 instead of 39.99 like other remakes is simple

People want a WII U Zelda, even though it's not THE WII U zelda (since it's a remake) people will still buy it
