My opinion will likely change a bit with Smash, but I've never treated a Nintendo console as an online play experience. I don't think I ever connected my Wii to the Internet even, just kept it in the break room at work for Smash, TvC, or Mario Party after hours or between helo Ops.

I actually played a lot of Mario Kart online on the wii lol (until the cheaters ruin all the races anyway)

Yeah, MK for Wii's online was so solid that it made the failings of Brawl that much more evident. A few LS mates and I used to race during raids when it originally came out.

with all the good games coming out for the WiiU (and those for the Wii i never played), I'm gonna need to pick up a WiiU before the end of the year it looks like.

But does it really not come w/an ethernet cord? Or was that only the older models?

It doesn't come with an ethernet port even. You have to buy a USB adapter. I luckily had one that I used with my Wii that worked with the Wii U. This is when I bought my MK8 bundle a couple weeks ago.

Wiifi works just fine for me. Granted my Wii U and Modem are within 3 feet of each other.

Does anyone know if eshop purchases are cross platform with a linked Nintendo ID? I'm trying to figure out if I need to decide which version of Shovel Knight I need to buy or whether downloading it on one system would enable me to play it on the other.

From what I also understand, their liquid assets have dropped by ~3 billion (down to 7 from 10) USD while their total overall bank account has jumped by ~3 billion. Not bad. Definately a good showing for MK8 and I'm sure June Wii U numbers will be very encouraging for shareholders going forward.

Iwata has successfully had a bile duct tumor removed, but it has taken him longer to heal than anticipated. He missed the recent board meeting, and is also why he was absent from E3.

Iwata was also re-elected board President (not surprisingly). His approval rating last year had dropped from 92% to 77. No word on what he was re-elected with for this year in terms of approval. I am guessing since Nintendo would have gotten sales numbers before the vote and thus good news, Iwata might be viewed as starting to turn the ship around.

So gonna be buying a WiiU this week and I never played the Zelda games for the Wii. I can purchase both on the WiiU shop or do I need to buy the disc? And do I need to buy the Wii remote and stuff to be able to play them? aaaannnndddd…. which one would you all recommend to play first?

Discs and I believe you'll need the Wiimote and nunchuck for both (for Skyward Sword for sure since you need Wii Motion Plus).

I think you do need Wii Motion Plus for Skyward Sword, but I doubt they sell non "plus" wiimotes anymore. Maybe a 3rd party does.

And yeah, you do need the Wiimote and Nunchuck for both. Best idea is to grab one of the Wii Sports or Nintendoland like titles and nab the free wiimote with it. You pay close to the same amount for a stand-alone wiimote anyways.

If you can still find the Mario Kart bundle, this solves all your problems because it comes with one.

Personally, I always want a physical copy of a game. I do not know if they are available on the e-shop however. When SS was released it came bundled with a wiimote plus and a 25th Anniversary soundtrack, but the Zelda wiimote's are apparently a collectors item now and pricey.

Refurbished Wiimotes are still the way to go if you ask me. Nintendo Shop has the black, blue, and white wiimotes+nunchuck for 19.99.

I really enjoyed Twilight Princess. It's a bit darker than your average Zelda game.

Skyward Sword was alright, but the several hour long intro sequence turned a lot of people off to it.

Both are goods, the problem i have with Skyward Sword is the world seems small

You have 4 'zones'

Sky
forest
Desert
Volcano

Everything is there

Think you have like 2 forest dungeons 2 fire 2 desert it really gets annoying imo

I think I'll be going into Twilight Princess first then. It's a plus if I can use the WiiU remote also… I should be able to, no? Only Skyward Sword is the motion controlled one i think?
