Anything with Iris, Eddy, Cisco/thegirl, non-reoccurring villains (especially if they have retarded names or are the prison break brothers), plus any other "extra" character gets skipped in this show - although cisco/girl are read into the wells situation so now their air time is valuable to me.

Happens with every show. GoT has dragon girl, the psychic boy and his band of retards, and now the religious garbage. Even daredevil had the reporter + wife stuff that I skipped through

Try it out, as soon as you see Iris next time hit whatever hotkey goes forward a few secs, watch for a second, forward, watch a sec, repeat until iris is gone. Then go back and watch the entire scene and be surprised that you only needed 5 seconds for every 45 to understand what's going on

Saves you a whole lot of time, too
Was watching the boy so I couldn't make an actual response to this up until now. You do understand that this is a villain of the week type show right? So you're basically skipping everyone not named Grodd, Weather Wizard, and Reverse Flash. What's the point of watching that? Skipping over Eddie is meh. But fast forwarding through Cisco, Caitlyn, and Iris makes zero sense. These are all major characters and two of the three are huge in the Flash universe in terms of impact etc.

You're last comment about saving time is fucking retarded, sorry man I can't sugarcoat it. Most people that watch a show aren't looking to "save time." They want to sit and enjoy it and watch it from start to finish. If you're skipping a third of the show you miss out on a ton of shit.

I'll agree no show will make anyone 100% happy. I've been guilty of skipping scenes in the past as has everyone else here. The levels you're skipping stuff makes me question why you're even bothering to sit down and watch it in the first place though.

You should quit watching CW all together if you dont like filler. Stick to 6 episode British shows

There's nothing to really respond to. He wants continuity about this specific universe's time travel rules in a fashion that makes sense re: other time travel rules he's experienced.

Goes back to "this fiction isn't right! It needs to be that fiction!"

The writers could literally say that if he goes a certain amount faster than the speed of light it creates a dimensional paradox effect that allows both versions of reality to exist for 17 minutes, long enough to do BATTLE FOR THE PAST TO SAVE THE FUTURE. But if he goes less than that speed the realities collapse because schrodinger.

And literally, and I mean literally, that would be no more incorrect scientifically than any other explanation in any other show, movie, or book.

Edit: funnily enough, writing that explanation gave me direct insight to what life would have been like as a writer for Eureka.

wasn't telling people what to skip

just giving an example that if you don't like something but still want to enjoy a good show.. you can skip it and lose out on nothing

I love the shows I watch, flash, got, daredevil, blacklist, sunny, elementary, person of interest, etc etc there's so many. I wouldn't watch them all if I waded through all of the things I don't like - idk why this hit such a nerve

Did you even read my post? I want them to establish rules for their version of time travel and then follow them. That is fiction 101. You create your world and it's rules and then you live by them. I'm not comparing it to any other form of time travel.

In this series time travel has occurred twice and it has followed different rules each time. That is inconsistent and it's bad writing. I don't think it's asking a lot for them to explain why there were two of Barry when he went back to the time of his mother's death but not when he went back in the tsunami episode.

Time travel is obviously going to be a big plot device for this show. For that to work, they need to establish how time travel works in their world in order to frame the story.

I addressed why it followed different rules in my post.

It could follow different rules a third time. Maybe if he goes DOUBLE the speed of light he ends up in the future.

It's all make-believe? Why does it matter if it's consistent? If it isn't consistent, they just need to say, "oh, he was traveling too fast his kinetic energy was generating too many giga-eigenvalues per second! He's created an unstable wormhole! Tesla predicted this in his theory of relativity in 1776!!"

Seriously. Did you ever watch Stargate?

Beings from another dimension that pass through solid matter willy-nilly, but are standing on the ground. Mocking it 80 episodes later doesn't make it any less silly. Do you stop watching Sci-Fi shows every time someone "jumps" to faster than the speed of light in space without being instantly turned into a pile of liquid from the acceleration yet gets knocked out by a punch?

I don't see how he could have time travelled just running back and forth anyways. You have to run in the opposite direction the earth is spinning in order to go back in time, not back and forth like he did.

Poor beth, barely was on screen for 1 minute of total camera time.

Man, I watch Doctor Who. I know all about shows breaking their own rules and that's fine. It's something you can do for dramatic impact once those rules are established. Flash hasn't established anything.

To use a Stargate example. the gate can't stay open past 38(iirc) minutes... unless it does because there's a black hole. SG-1 established the rule and then broke it with a "because science!" explanation in order to have a tense scene where the gate should go off but doesn't and then puts the team in an even more tense situation where they need to come up with a new solution. A good reason to break your own rules.

In Flash. it seemed that going back to your own past meant there were two of you until the tsunami episode. Now the time travel doesn't seem to have any rules except you gotta go fast in a special way. Like I said before, I'd be fine with overlooking the inconsistency if it seemed to be for good story reasons, but right now it just seems like the writers were too lazy to deal with two Barrys so one ceased to be.

You want consistency with any story. That's not asking alot. I don't think anyone here cares about which theory of time travel they follow. Just pick one. I don't want to see Multiverse explained and shown then they do a single universe thing, then switch to another theory. It just makes it hard to follow.

And it doesn't just apply to time travel with this show. Everything is massively inconsistent. I'm not saying I don't enjoy the show, I do but it's a bit difficult to try and care for any character knowing that they could do a complete 180 from a slight breeze.

I just don't get how making up a horrendously shitty excuse is any better than pretending it didn't happen.

    Stargate example #3

Zats: shot once = stun, shot twice = dead, three times to disintegrate the body. Except when that doesn't happen and nobody comments on it or talks about it until, again, the 100th episode parody episode.

The writers there never explained away why all of a sudden those rules don't exist anymore, they just stopped following them.

Edit: My point being that obviously it didn't stop you or me from watching the show. Picking nits instead of enjoying the ride with your brain off seems silly.

The cost of entry for watching The Flash is that your brain should be off.

I get a LOT of people asking me why I love Stargate but rip Interstellar to shreds for the piece of shit movie that it is. The reason is that the cost of entry of Stargate is that you have to be cool with magic wormholes and every alien speaks english and blah blah blah. Interstellar set itself up (or was set up by reviews) to be super accurate and sciency and awesome! And it was just stupid bullshit that wasn't any better than lolwormholes and stomach snakes. The Flash is more Stargate than Interstellar.

If you're trying for consistency in campy sci-fi, but are okay with that consistency being broken with a wave of the hand because someone bothered to wave that hand, idk man. If why there are/are not two barry's is going to effect your experience watching the show you may want to get off the ride here.

I hear the nerdy guy is going to ascend next season, but don't worry, he'll be back even though we've basically established that that can't happen.

    Re: Myrrh

Basically a lot of complaints about the show are from people who apparently aren't familiar with the fact that The Flash is basically god and even Superman is a puny human in comparison.

Welcome to DC. Enjoy your stay.

I honestly don't care enough to ever think about them. I've seen them all once(?) and never bothered again.

Novel idea, I know, I didn't like something that I watched so I didn't watch it anymore.

Didn't realize that I have to blindly follow something I enjoy and can't disagree with anything at all.

Discuss about shows, lore, ect, are what make shows great.

I am cool with doing this. I do it all the time for loads of shows and movies. The problem is that right now the ride isn't very enjoyable. I had these issues with the time travel episode when it aired but I didn't come in here saying anything then because that was and so far still is the best episode the show has had. At that point I was expecting and looking forward to a little world-building with the writers explaining why time travel worked differently that time, but I never got it.

Still I wasn't that bothered until it started to pile on with other shit in subsequent weeks like Barry's out of character arrangement with Cold and now Cisco's "dreams." After last night's episode, thinking back on the end of the tsunami, it started to look like the first symptom of a bigger problem.

At this point, a really good season finale could still win me back but if not I'll probably be doing exactly like you said and getting off the ride.

Edit: tl;dr Shows need to earn leeway with suspension of disbelief by being entertaining and right now this one isn't.

Not really sure how much more "leeway with suspension of disbelief" we can give a show that stars a person who is known (or at least reported) to run faster than the speed of light, can hyper activate own molecules to move through solid objects, and capable of time travel. Not to mention the biggest bad guy on his list is a known time traveler and soon to be a talking silver back.

All I'm gonna say are some of the complaints about this show are absolutely hysterical. Who knew a show with more metahuman/super powers would require a more suspension of disbelief than a show that's more grounded like "Arrow"

Like shit; if you want an example of what happened with the time travel here in the Flash, watch "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" and bam. Otherwise, if you don't enjoy what you're watching, then it is what it is and GL with whatever you watch next~

Also, if anyone ever wants to know again why more shows don't go the superpower route and go the easier more grounded 'powers aren't in this town' sort of route, now you know; far less complaints.
