Are we going to conpletely ignore the fact that the real Jay was from Earth 3? After all the speeches Zoom gave about looking everywhere for the right guy, Jay was "next door". How ta fuck did zoom do the search? 1, 17352, 54, 817, 2627746, 737378...etc etc and then he checked 3? Isn't in in grand scheme of things it's easier to work your way out from center, or axis, as Solomon called E1?

Barry: Hey guys let's not ever do that thing again.
Team: Good idea Barry, never do the thing.
Barry: Guys. I did the thing.

    Fucking barry.

He spit balled a number, we have no idea if he is actually from a directly parallel universe in the magical arbitrary number scheme they came up with.

    You...

You...realize that, even assuming for a moment that there was some widely-accepted parallel universe theory, that alternate dimensions wouldn't be like concentric spheres or some shit, right? Or like, the multiverse wouldn't just be a really long hotel hallway. Not only is there no actual "Earth 1" (a concept that is brought up like every other episode between Wells and Cisco), but even if there was a "prime" reality, every other of the infinite reality would exist concurrently in the same time and space, so numbering them in order only makes sense insofar as keeping them straight for the purpose of conversation.

Him being from "Earth 3" has about as much relation to Earth 1 or Earth 2 as it would have if he said he was from Earth 777 or Earth 11.2 or Korblax.

Spoilering the pre-emptive response to any argument so people don't have to sift through my shit:
    Spoiler: show

Any model wherein order mattered would imply either a time-ordering or a space-ordering. If things were time-ordered they wouldn't be parallel dimensions, as the notion of a parallel dimension implies (again, purely speaking in terms of wibbly wobbly not-science string theory shit) parallelism along a higher-dimensional axis than combined 3 spatial + 1 time dimensions. A model that goes "out from the center" as you put it, with all events occurring at the same times, needs to imply a spatial separation such that as one moves further out from the center, the information traveling from point X back to the prime universe must go faster and faster and faster than the speed of light to allow for any measure of simultaneity.

This means that for infinite universes, even assuming a near-infinitely small finite separation in space outward from a central point, to go from universe 1 to universe N in the time implied in the show every time they hop, you would need to travel with an infinite velocity. Not just faster than light, actual v approaching infinity meters per second. This also means that Zoom would've never been able to destroy the multiverse no matter how powerful an explosion, because even an explosion of infinite energy traveling at infinite velocity would take infinite time to reach universe N for N -> infinity, so by the time it reached really far distances, billions and billions of years would've passed and the explosion would mean fuck all to anything past a certain point.

Infinite universe theory is fun but also dumb as all hell. The only way it works is thinking of it as infinitely many universes at the exact same point in space and time in terms of lower dimensional. Separation needs to occur in embedding to higher dimensions, but if Barry and co. can travel through like 8th dimensional space it sorta makes the concept of punching someone in the face a bit mundane.

Dude, I am taking comic book shows at face value. They showed us how the universes are arranged. I get that it's arbitrary visual aid. I know fuck all about quantum mechanics or whatever. I go by what is said, especially in expository speech. I'll subscribe to Krandor's explanation him simply spitballing a number.

Was it even necessary for Jay to say it was Earth 3? Probably not. Just another kink in the writing.

EDIT: Also by your own explanation, if they wanted to travel between universes, they wouldn't need a portal. They just needed to vibrate in one spot and appear in the same spot in different universe and pray they dont appear in a buulding or merged into another living thing that happened to be there at that exact time.

It's not a kink in the writing. As Sath mentioned, the show itself has addressed numerous times that they just call their Earth #1 because its their Earth. None of them have any proper numbered designations at all.

Trying to rationalize comic book logic is stupid. Just say fuck it and it's Earth 3.

Haha, that's actually really funny. I like the fact that they have the actor from that series was one of my first introductions to the flash.
The fact that he said, oh you will probably just call it Earth-3 tells you whats up, Earth 1 is where they are, since they Dubbed E-2 where Zoom came from the next world that they discover would be E-3... they are not going to skip numbers.

To be self-consistent with like most of the shit they've written for the show, this is pretty much right. This is how it would need to happen to have most of the shit they've said be representative.

And for what it's worth, much of the "ok we know it's bullshit but if we set aside that it's bullshit and give a little leeway creatively, what then are the next tier of physical problems with teleportation/time travel?" stuff that is based in reality does deal with that sort of shit all the time. Congrats, you traveled back to 1938 to kill Hitler, you are a hero, there's only one problem - you appeared inside a cow and now you are dead. Good job buddy.

But I mean...comic book writing. Just is silly to get hung up on the arbitrary numbering of parallel universes. It's silly to get hung up on anything related to science in this show. Plenty of unmotivated emotional and psychological rationalizations that no human over the age of 12 would make to get hung up on.

Episode was ok at best until the end. Once a fucking gin flash is right there and isnt fast enough to stop zoom.

Zoom was able to make a portal and come back at the most opportune time to grab his dad. No explanation on how he made a fucking portal. Or how they found every single meta human that was KO'd to jail them.

Now Wally knows Barry is flash and is going to be butthurt just like Iris was.

Called it on Barry's dad dying. Good riddance. I doubt Zoom dies in season finale. Probably going to get trapped in speed force or something.

Also, I thought cisco and caitlyn were using hologram machine when talking to laurel. Kinda got me when he caught the pipe
    kinda called it on zoom?

really hope they get better writers for season 3. this could be the turning point when the show becomes shit and gets canned

So they'd said thru an article we were supposed to be "amazed by who the man in the mask turned out to be"...and I gotta say, I wasn't. At all. It made for an interesting point sure but it would've been so much better if it'd been Eddie, or maybe Eobard (original Eobard actor, not Wells). Also, "real Jay" looked so dumb in his suit. More dumb with the new helmet, but dumb without it too.

Also, it was Jay Garrick who said he was from Earth 3, not Hunter Zolomon that said he found him on Earth 3. Hunter Zolomon said he travelled to several different earths and eventually found him. When asked where he's from, he said "Well, I guess you'd call it Earth 3". If you asked Hunter Zolomon, he could say he found him on whatever Earth he was at the time, but to them it's Earth 3 as it's the third Earth they're aware of.

So yes, as was mentioned before, the numbers is just an arbitrary number to make it easy to separate one Earth from another. They don't have "official" numbers. Saying Earth #infinity-1 would be a lot harder to keep track of than just Earth 3.

Also, shouldn't it be really easy for Vibe to get him to Earth 3 without going through Earth 2? He should just have to touch him since he belongs to Earth 3, then vibe the frequency of him to open a portal to Earth 3.

I'm surprised Zoom didn't enlist villains from other universes. Some alts could have been really fun and powerful. Also, Hamill's cameo would have been legit, considering they implied Jay is the Flash from the 1990's show. Just some wishful thinking.

People didn't know he was the flash in the original? It was talked about a lot early in season 1.

And Mark Hamill has appeared twice as The Joker (James Jesse). In season 1 episode 17, and the Christmas episode in season 2 episode 9. Or did you mean have him appear in this episode as well?

I found the most hillarious part to be that he wore the original Flash costume from the 90's show.

I just watched the episode last night and really disappointed with the direction they took it after the Zoom showdown

    Spoiler: show
They fact they went with the Flashpoint paradox has a lot of potential but since its a shared universe with all the other WB shows, as others have said, it can't really have the impact they wanted. All we will really be left with is another de-powered Barry for a few episodes and it will give way to the new big bad that may be Zoom and Reverse Flash together for all we know. They already showed his future self disappearing which, as anybody who has seen it before and has been said multiple times throughout the show, the Flash will no longer exist in the future. What made flashpoint great was how it interplayed with the universe as a whole and there is no justice league, etc... to really have such a looming effect. I mean this could be how Wally and Jessie get their speed.

The real gripe is it was just a few episodes that the speed force was like "we are not giving you back your powers until you come to terms with your mother dieing and everything" and then he goes back and does just that and goes back to being a whiny bitch.
