Now I'm thinking that this whole season will be summed up as "savitar" doing all of this to actually save Iris and Barry and make sure he doesn't end up without love in his life...or some bullshit like that....

Having the time remnant version of him seems like they have an easy way out. Since it is the remnant that becomes Savitar and he breaks off from the group due to them feeling that he isn't the "real" Barry, they could simply ship him off to another Earth where Barry doesn't exist or died and have him live out his days there instead of getting all emo on Earth one.
