PS3 Issues

Go to turn on my PS3 yesterday and it's extremely sluggish. Did a system restore and everything goes as expected. As soon as I select something on the menu though the PS3 freezes up. I try to turn the console off using the controller and after about 5 minutes it goes to a black screen. The controller light stays on and the console's green light keeps flashing non stop.

Has my PS3 done gone and died on me? If so is there a fix for this that doesn't involve me shelling out money to Sony? What is the problem with it?

Blinking green light means that your PS3 is overheating. Try moving it to a more ventilated area and then take out the hard drive wait 10 minutes and then put it back in, that's the only suggestion Sony Support has other than sending it in to them for repair.

Thanks Arn I'll give it a shot. That's not the answer I was expecting to hear. It's out in a fairly open ventilated space now. But I'll pull out the HD and see what happens.

If it's in a well ventilated area, you could just check and make sure the intake and outake fans are not blocked with dust.

unscrew the case and attack it with canned air. seal the case back up. if that doesn't work get yourself a plastic tub. fill that plastic tub 1/3 full with ice. lay 2 or 3 layers of plastic sheeting on top of the ice. after you have done this you should try fucking boys. then put the ps3 on top of the plastic sheeting. place another plastic tub full of ice on top. this should prevent any errors from overheating.

odds are that if its overheating your PS3 is going to YLOD at some point. If thats the case its not that bad of a fix; just need to replace the the thermal paste.

my first force shut down on my ps3 was about 4 months before I had to open my baby up. Its happened twice to me in the last year, but I think thats because I screwed up on the paste the first time. second time has lasted much longer.

I love you Tyven. Took it over to my buddy's place today and we replaced the hard drive and now it works fine. The partition on the old hard drive is completely gone. We're trying to restore it so I don't lose all my data but it's not looking good so far.
