This is not about Demo. But the way you're going about completely smacking people you claim to love in the face without even listening to them or taking them seriously is pretty upsetting. It's not "fucking stupid". It's not "going to deter people".

It's important to talk about these things, whenever they arise. You seem to think that this is an all or nothing thing - something REALLY HAS TO BE HAPPENING for it to be discussed. And that's simply not true. Like I've said before, I really hope we're all proved wrong about TR. But that won't negate the discussions that have been had. And it might emphasise, if TR gets it right, how GOOD writing and characterisation can be done in video games. Somehow I doubt that'll happen, given what we've seen so far, but I'm happy to hold out hope for it.

Something has to really be happening in order for it to be torn apart and criticized. I hope they do a good job too. But I'm going to wait until I have enough information to make a thoughtful, informed decision about it. You know, one you can make when you actually have information. This academic discussion stuff is fine and dandy but that is NOT what was happening. What was happening was trashing a game we don't even know a damn thing about because it DARED to try to address a topic some people found too risque.

And your argument goes for you too. You're here busy burning bridges over something that's pretty fucking small fry in the scheme of things. Perhaps you should think about that too; it's a deeper issue about you not taking your friends seriously or listening to what they have to say, and blowing up at them about some assumptions you made about how they are thinking which you've taken completely out of proportion.

Ironic choice of words here. Frankly, again, he does this shit a lot. We debate and move on. I've said I thought shit was fucking stupid to his face before. Making judgments based on 0 information is pretty fucking stupid, and I'd say that to anyone -- ESPECIALLY people I love. You're free to think that I'm burning whatever bridge you want.

Trivializing a topic by making sweeping judgments over something you have no information to assess, while simultaneously pretending, proclaiming or ACTUALLY BELIEVING that it is your DEEP LEVEL OF CARE that arms you/gives you the right to do so is stupid. Period.

I completely agree with you. it frustrates me that people want to completely dismiss discussion off the bat because it doesn't align with their world view, or they "weren't offended" by it (so why should we be?).

I don't think you have to be offended by something to worry about the ability for it to have a damaging effect on society. I've seen worse than the trailer and, who knows, probably enjoyed it. But I feel that the alternative to pointing it out; not saying something, not articulating what you find troubling about it, is far more damaging than identifying, "here are things we don't like".

Whether the game itself is offensive or not, the trailer had content that I believe is, ultimately, detrimental to the game itself and to the portrayal of an iconic character. People who are going to jump to conclusions on either side of the issue, and be incendiary about it, have probably set a precedent for doing this before, and will continue to do so - whether or not it, as you said, aligns with their worldview.

People argued that the fact that young Lara's vocal register was a higher tone than other Lara made her sound intentionally pornographic. Yes, people actually said it.

What makes it pornographic is that she sounds like she's being humped while falling down a flight of stairs. Someone might say, "it is because her voice is higher!", and another person might say, "it is because of the vocalizations she makes!", but regardless of the rationale, it. sounds. pornographic.
