Something I don't think that was ever brought up in this thread, that I admittedly never thought about.

Mommy boards talk about feminism a lot, and I found some women I would think would be hard core feminists aren't. Why? Because they are African American. They take the persepctive that feminism is white women fighting for white male privilege.

This is actually a very interesting aspect of intersectionality, and one that a proper safe feminist space attempts to address.

The fact is that black feminists are correct in criticizing many aspects of "typical" white feminist spaces, which highlight the plights of middle class white women. The same criticism is applicable to spaces that don't address plights of minorities, trans indivduals, etc. One example of these is criticism towards "Slutwalk" and how it highlights a heteronormative, cis version of feminism mostly associated with white women (i.e. a Muslim feminist woman may not identify with the message of Slutwalk).

Wanting her to lose her job (basically) doesn't mean you care what her job is or care anything about that job. Its the same thing as dudes getting fired in donglegate and any number of other things when the masses call for someone to lose their job over something totally unrelated to it. (Same as Ray Rice and others in the NFL as well.)

Professional athletes are amazing at playing their game, but that's just to serve the larger, moneymaking purpose of their being public figures. What matters is not the specific sport she plays, it's that she's an athlete in some capacity with all the merchandise and endorsement deals that entails. I can say a soccer player shouldn't be allowed to get away with domestic violence and keep her job without caring about soccer. I can count the number of NFL games I've ever watched on one hand, I still didn't think Ben Roethlisberger should be able to rape a girl, Ray Lewis to stab a guy, and Michael Vick to run a dogfighting ring and still have jobs selling jerseys and tickets and being heroes to kids.
