GoT has already been raked over the coals for being lopsided on the female nudity (wheres the cocks and balls?), the overemphasis on females getting raped / implied rape and then not having the balls (hehe) to use those same cards with men because eew, manrape is icky and taboo+1. What, manrape didn't happen in the medieval themes GoT borrows from? None of this really detracts from the awesome that is Game of Thrones but it's just those little tropes you notice as you derive entertainment.

Rape is one of those cards you need to play wisely and when you're throwing that shit around with frequency it completely devalues the shock factor.

^ Must have missed the entire Theon arc. And there are plenty of topless men throughout the show. I'm pretty certain there's more cock than vag in the entire show as well.

As I said, GoT has been raked over the coals with criticism, not that I agree with all of it. The amount of times the show throws around rape to me gets comical. It's like Inigo Montoya status at this point, we all get it. Someone might get raped up in here. The SJWs have found the perfect show to direct their fury towards and its rising popularity has only added to that righteous fury.

Also side bit but cmon, a topless man vs. boobs? Not even a fair comparison.

I'm guessing these people discussing GoT haven't read the books. I literally just read them all (first time) in the past 2 months. I can't recall any rapes in the show that weren't written in the books. That's pretty much the only thing that matters. The show might've been more graphic, but that's hardly shocking because it's television - you can't suddenly switch to a black screen and a narrator going "and now Lollys is violently gangraped."

This so much. There are countless valid complaints to be made about poor design/treatment of female characters in games/comics/etc (and I am the among the first to make them), but these cliques of extremist 'feminists'/'SJWs'/whatever, don't seem interested in going through the effort to find or discuss them in a thoughtful/constructive manner. GoT crosses lines for everyone pretty indiscriminately... not sure where people get the idea that it's unfair to females exclusively/in particular.

I mean, a dude literally got his sausage flayed, cooked and served to him on a plate. I think I recall at least one character in the recent season getting stabbed/destroyed in some way in that area too.

Both of which are arguably pretty terrible and unecessary but come on, it's a MA-rated TV show based on a 'time in history' (yeah it's fantasy and a different world, but obviously is based loosely around medieval times) where this shit happened... and if you have a problem with not hiding the uglier parts of this time you probably shouldn't watch the show. This isn't portraying sexist issues in media to me anymore than watching an R-Rated movie about the mafia is portraying a 'violence issue' in media.

I see a lot of this with many of the people GGers have been rallying around. Milo from Breitbart, that idiot lawyer who challenged Gawker guy to a boxing match for being a bully, those two idiots trying to make the documentary about Anita, Adam Baldwin. Most of them have little interest in video games, but it gets them an audience.

Dick horrors =/= Rape. Rape is on the level with having children brutalized and both elicit some pretty spectacular reactions from people considering the taboos surrounding both. In America, you can get away with a startling level of violence but touch either of those two taboos or if you're ballsy - cross them - and you'll get quite the reaction if you aren't outright shut down.

It's why using rape as part of your plot is such a difficult proposition.

Regarding the historical perspective: Most people are willing to accept the whole "women were treated pretty badly" portion of it which leads into rape/implied rape that may come off in dialogue but most of the times the writers aren't really keen on shining a light on the reality that boys/men were getting raped too. We're all good with some dude getting his head lopped off or people getting their heads crushed but show one dude sodomizing another dude? Man having an inappropriate (by our standards) relationship with a boy? Everyone loses their minds.
