10 hours of walking around yields a 2 minute video
mmm these cherries are so delicious thank you for picking them
man, i actually agree with you two on a couple of things, but the response you guys have to that video is kinda sad. you don't see how that is a problem? really? no it's not the end of the world, but it doesn't have to be straight on sexual assault for it to be an issue. more than half my ass, i counted a handful in there that were decidedly not harassment sure - people just saying god bless or have a good evening or whatever - but the majority of that shit was people commenting on her appearance, some of them being even aggressive about it
that isnt cherry picking brah thats just what happened to her. just because it didnt happen every minute of the 10 hours doesnt make it not an issue.
the vast majority of people including myself just want to be left the fuck alone by strangers. if that were me i would be beyond uncomfortable. to deal with that every day would fuckin suck.
No, I don't see how its a problem. Go ahead and explain to me how strangers talking to you is a problem.
Have a good day, Xajii.
She needs to just pop in headphones and magically it all disappears. Hell, it works for homeless people and those pesky Planned Parenthood fundraiser people.
She should also cover up.
I'd suggest the latest in niqabs made from a high quality silk designed to contain even the wildest of feminine charms.
I struggle with the catcalling thing because I've dealt with it slightly and my sister/lady friends have dealt with it way more. I've only really gotten the "you should smile more! hey, smile!" one which is annoying. My sister, on the other hand, had the very nice "I want to eat your cunt" typea one from a lovely construction worker when she was 15. The introvert antisocial aspect of me wishes everyone would just fuck off and mind their own business while others try to get where they want to go. But that's not realistic because some people are just chatty talkative tards.
I just don't know what can be done about the more severe cases. It may be a subconscious "dominance" thing but overall like someone else mentioned, I think the guys just want to get their dicks wet. I guess if we championed masturbation that might solve some issues mabye?
@ ronin you mock, but the way we dress is a form of communication. if you dress provocatively, you're telling people "i want you to look at me." similarly, if you dress in trim, professional clothes you tell people "i am professional! look how professional i am." this is why we have dress codes and whatnot. "$10 blowjobs" is not appropriate workplace discussion, so a whore's uniform (not the same as provocative) is not acceptable workplace attire. unless you're actually a whore.
earbuds/headphones say "i'm busy"
Two minutes out of 10 hours (600 minutes) is 0.3% of the time she spends walking being represented in that video. The amount that's not shown is 99.7%, so yeah, its not unreasonable to think that she took the worst 2 minutes out of the 600 minutes of footage.
PS: if you think this aint cherry picked
0:30: blatantly eye fucking her - black
0:53-1:09 'stalked' her for 5 min' - black
1:14 "thousand dollars" - black
1:20-1:37 another guy following - black
At the end, theres a not that it's "people of all backgrounds", but she sure cherry picked a bunch of black people doin it. She also considered a wink or whistle harassment? A WINK?!? Are you kidding me?!?
And yeah, I'm sorry, but if "how you doing" is sexual harassment catcalling, then the human race is doomed and better stick to plenty of fish and tinder.
No, it happens everywhere. It just happens more often when there are more people (duh).
They must be really fucking stupid then if they think that will actually work.
Except it's more than 2 minutes. Did you even watch it? It's 1-2 second clips. Most of them probably bothered her for much longer. If you watched it, you'd have seen that one person followed her for 5 minutes. It's cut up because no one would watch a 20+ minute video.
Don't get me wrong. Its just like I said in the chat a bit ago... I definitely think some of the stuff in that video is OTT.
Dudes walking next to her for 5 min stretches or being like 'why won't you talk to me Q_Q' and stuff like that is just insane.
'Have a nice day' and 'how are you' and so on though... if anyone considers that verbal harassment, we've taken things way too fucking far.
When so much of the video is that inane shit, I have a really hard time seeing an actual problem.
Probably because you've never had to deal with it.
I have had to deal with people saying god bless you or to smile more. Heck, I've even had strangers ask me how my day is.
Yep, normal human interaction. I deal with it constantly.
One time, some guy had the nerve to ask me if I had a light.
If 'inane shit' keeps happening to you uninvited over and over again, it ceases to feel like 'inane shit.' This is in New York, where the typical interaction between two strangers on the street is cold anonymity, so these random greetings are out of order and do add up.
But yeah if you stop looking (or are incapable) or looking at things from her perspective and pretend like she's exceptional and this doesn't happen all the time to women everywhere then sure it's easy to pretend like there's nothing wrong and this is all cherry picked or staged.
Would you consider someone saying Hi or asking how a lady's day is on the street a sign of confidence/them being assertive or an act of aggression?
One of these is an attempt at humor but both are equally funny.
The fact is that I can see things from her and your perspective. I just find it ludicrous that the crux of your argument isn't anything about what people are saying but rather the frequency of it. 'Too many people like my appearance and therefore would like to talk to me, this is a problem.' is just not something that resonates with me.
Next week in feminism: Saying hello to a stranger is misogynistic sexism.
Yes, and I mean yes, some of those dudes were aggressive about it, but when women regularly (and don't BS me you know its true) respond more to aggressive pick-up behavior than they do to the common/reserved pick ups, men will adopt this in order to attract women. Those people following her like "Whachu doing gurl" probably get laid with this kind of thing more times than not. Is this right? I don't know, it would be nice if we lived in a world where more women were attracted to kind men, but If you lined up 20 "nice guys" and 20 "dicks", I don't have to guess which side will have had more women/partners in their life.
So yes, some of those people can clearly be interpreted as harassment or unwanted advances (hinted by the fact SHES IGNORING YOU), but when more times than not this work on women.. you think they're going to stop? How are we going to solve this problem? In almost every species, the male adopt behaviors/patterns to attract females, these behaviors you see in these men are there because its what works for most women believe it or not. "The bad boy" vibe and such.
I'm really not trying to sound like I'm victim blaming, mostly because I don't see any victim here, so don't think thats what I'm getting at... I'm trying to say that maybe not any of you BGers here are guilty of this, but the more aggressive "sup baby" approach actually works more than one might think... maybe not for any good women, but as someone pointed out, those guys aren't after wife material, just to "get their dick wet", and those pick up lines/tactics usually work for the one night stand mentality.
The "hello's", "have a nice day", etcs responses... if those annoy you then IDK what to tell you, welcome to the real world, other people besides you exist here and some of them like meeting new people.
Try this then, how is the woman supposed to know the difference between the guy saying 'good morning' and the guy who's about to do that and then follow her down the street for five minutes? That the latter happens at all is the problem, not the woman who has long since learned to just avoid all eye contact and not engage in order to feel even a little bit safe.
