I thought we already cleared up that absolutely nobody in this thread is advocating to make catcalling like you see in that video illegal.

So what is it that people are advocating? That there should be more education for men who don't realize that cat calling is something that most women don't like to be on the receiving end of?

Like that isn't obvious, or that we don't already know that we need better education (and therefore socialization) for people in poorer communities. Do we just like the sound of our fingers typing? I really would like to know why we're discussing something we can already reasonable assume about women, and men for that matter.

I don't think anyone is defending those lines. People are just saying that saying "Hello" or "God bless" is fine, where as Hey (i think it was Hey anyway) and the creator of that video consider it harassment.

If you're saying "Hello" or "God bless you" to a woman simply because the ass is fat, with no reason to believe she's up for having a conversation with you, you're being annoying.

Plenty of dudes who catcall are so full of themselves that they think any woman should enjoy their unsolicited "compliments" - women speaking up to tell them "actually that shit is annoying stop it" can help them to learn otherwise, agree?

@chari I think you've nailed it - "hey i see you playing a game i like games maybe you'd enjoy talking to me" is perfectly reasonable logic to open a convo with. It's sometimes going to result in a "guess not" but at least there's some logic to it.

On the other hand, "hey it appears that the ass is fat so you should want to talk to me" doesn't make any sense.

How FAT is that ass though? There's a scale and once it goes beyond the threshold, you gotta say something, it's a crime now to.

Hello? You're kidding me right? How is it annoying to say "Hello" to people? Even if it is to strike up conversation with a hot chick who cares, it's a friendly remark.

Because the motivation behind saying it isn't "friendly", it's abusing a guise of friendliness in order to solicit conversation based on nothing but an appreciation for the fat ass.

It's annoying because it leaves her with two options: Ignore and let a tiny piece of polite civilization die in the process, or acknowledge and risk being followed and harassed because you gave the tiniest opening that it might be interpreted that you're open to being hollered at.

If a person hasn't even made eye contact with you and you have no reason to believe they have any interest in talking to you, leave them alone - ESPECIALLY if you only want to talk to them because you like the way they look.

The video showed both these things, and I don't think it's fair to call it all harrassment. Is that a fair assumption?

Where is the line in the sand? Is it not fair to tell women, especially attractive ones, that "men are going to want your attention and you need to know how to respond, if you do at all". Of course these advances aren't always solicited, but you can't honestly expect only men she's interested ok in to try and get her attention, do you?

tbh, I think if more guys didn't do it in the obvious cases, and maybe only do it in the "I am not sure but I'll give it a shot" cases, it would be a great improvement. I think getting cat called once in awhile is not going to be as upsetting to a woman than getting cat called 50 times in a day. (still upsetting, but that's the facts of life sometimes). This of course doesn't include the following, that isn't calling, that is creepy-creeperton stalking, and I don't think anyone here is advocating that doing so is ok.

Let's be real too. How many relationships have come about from people walking by and making a comment on the street? Ya I am sure some, but I doubt many. This isn't about hookup spots, it's about that isn't even a good place to get a hookup. It's just a good place to probably piss some random woman off.

It's very easy to say "Hi" back at someone and that be the end of it lol, not sure why it's such a burden on people. Even with the motivation being to savor dat ass, it's just a friendly greeting and no one should be getting out of shape over it. Now it depends on how it's conveyed obviously, because even the word "hello" can be uttered in a fucking creepy as way.
